Lets hear some thoughts! Competitive or not? Which types of armies will give me trouble, which will I have an advantage over?

Thoughts? May be competitive. Slightly slower than I'd prefer, and 1,500 is a strange obnoxious points level where the enemy's going to have plenty of anti-tank and a Land Raider still takes up too much of your list.

The biggest problem I'm seeing here at the moment is that this is very much a 5th edition list; with the revised vehicle rules the Rhinos are wastes of space and should be traded for more Land Speeders, and the Land Raider is a dubious addition given that four glancing hits wrecks it regardless of damage rolls; increased emphasis on jump infantry and skimmers will cut down significantly on your Terminators' chance of accomplishing anything at all, I'd advise dropping them as well.

You'll have a lot of trouble facing anyone with decent mobile firepower; airborne Guard, Eldar, Dark Eldar, and Tau can avoid coming to grips with you until doomsday, which makes your big shiny five hundred point Terminator/LRC bundle a big shiny five hundred point waste until lascannons/bright lances/dark lances/railguns turn it into a big shiny five hundred point wreck. Take more Fast Attack units to compensate, increased toughness to Bikes and skimmers are putting them back on the competitive map for the Space Marine Codex.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

I don't have a problem with your Termie/Raider unit and still think Rhinos have their value. With your squad size, I would swap your Crusader for a Redeemer (keeping the melta) and swap the Razor squad for 10 scout snipers w/ camo cloaks and a hellfire heavy bolter. With your 15 points saved you can get meltaguns in the tacticals and throw a dozer blade onto the predator to bury it in terrain.

Personally I think the reaider my be too expensive for this point value. Just deep strike them. Still takes 2 turns for you to assualt and you can put them anywhere. I know its not reliable but 260 points we can put somewhere better!

I think vindicators are where it is at this edition. AP 2 helps with tanks, and large templates now can hit multiple vehicles as the center hole is irrelevant. I would switch the predator for one of these for sure.

How about sternguard? They are one of the most point efficient and deadly units in the marine book. How about this list?

Still 3 scoring units. Plus when you pod in you can combat squad the sternguard and shoot a tank with the meltas and kill all the infantry with the flamers. I think its much more points efficient.

Thanks for the replies, even if I disagree its great to have other points of view to consider. Anyone else want to weigh in?

Is everyone really finding land raiders to be that flimsy? People seem to be moving away from melta, in my experience, so it isn't quite so bad.

Anyone else experience different?

Honestly I find land raiders to be the same pretty much. The same things that dealt with them in 5th now deal with them in 6th. Lance/Melta/lascannon fire. Regardless of the hull point system those things are going to be targeting you anyway. Its less likely to get an immobilised result now.

I do think that a raider in a 1500pt list is a huge point sink though. I would be more apt to lose the raider, DS the termies, and throw in 2 vindicators.

I agree with this. There's nowt wrong with footslogging so long as there is enough cover. 2 Squads of 5 Scout would be better spent here.

I also agree with the Vindicator. With the spare points from the Land Raider and dropping the Predator I bet you could fit a pair of Vindicators in.

Now you have some big guns that can hide behind Rhino's, you have another scoring unit. The rest seems solid if that's where you want to go.
