Looking over the rules on fortifications and I do not see anything that keeps them from being locked in combat (as defined on pg23).

The rules on pg 93 says that "Units may shoot at or charge an occupied building just as if it was a vehicle."

However that s a rule governing how to charge, not that it can not be locked in combat. This matters a lot because if the building is locked in combat then I can also do CC damage to it on the opposing players turn rather than just on my own turn. Also it would keep Weapon Emplacements from firing.

Anyone know why RAW says a building can not be locked in combat?

Vehicles cannot be locked in combat

Pg 92. Buildings of all types use aspects of the Transport vehicle rules. The main difference between buildings and actual vehicles is that they can't move, and units from either side can go inside.

so at 60mm said, they cannot be locked in combat

They can be charged like vehicles can be charged. It doesn't really say anything about the Fight sub-phase. (Charge sub-phase and Fight sub-phases are separate now). There are separate rules for how they are handled in the Fight-sub phase (Different table for penetration, how units inside can be wounded on hits) and there is nothing in that section saying that they are not locked in combat.

For a real world question. I charge a tervigon in and whiff my rolls. On the opposing players turn during the Fight-sub phase are they still engaged and can the tervigon attack again? (*edit for confusing a different game system) If you are not locked in combat or have charged there is not Fight sub-phase for that turn.

I know with vehicle (even an immobilized one) that you do not get to attack on your opponents turn as you are not locked in combat (and if you are not locked in combat or have charged there is not Fight sub-phase for that turn).

Did they change this in 6th?

In 5th a tervigon charged an immobilized Chimera, whiffed, he's still in BtB and can swing again on the opponents turn.

I've left my 6th edition BRB in my friends car so I can't check on that for ya.

Vehicles you get to hit again. (pg 76). I had a brain poop. (I was thinking of a different game).

The question is on fortifications as I have played a few people who said that you do not get to attack a building on the other players turn as the rules for vehicles and assaults do not cover Fortifications (just how to move into BtB with a model that has no base).

pg 76...Combats against vehicles are very different from those among other unit types. For a start, whilst vehicles can be assaulted, they do not Pile In and cannot be locked in combat....

....Units that still have models in base contact with a vehicle during its Assault phase may attack it again,.....

So you not locks, which allows you to be shot.
But should you survive, you get to swing again.
