So for a while now I've been spreading the word about my little 30% off GW hookup and been giving the contact info for it to US and CAN members.

Well I talked to him and he's agreed to do AUS/NZ sales with the following terms:

Cost of items plus $6 shipping is paid up front before I order anything.
Actual cost of shipping to Australia + paypal fee is paid before I send anything.
The receiver understands that I cannot guarantee the safety nor timing of the shipment.

So provided you can accept those terms, you'll have access to all GW plastic kits and Codices/Army Books at 30% off from US retail value.

So that $180 AUD Dark Vengeance set will now cost you $67~ AUD before shipping as an example.

For ease of math, check US retail prices at GW's site by changing your country to the US, then multiply that amount by .7. That will give you the subtotal price in USD, which you can then plug into www.xe.com to translate it into AUD.

The potential for savings is huge.

A few things to know:
My seller would be doing this as a private party, not as an LGS. As such he isn't restricted by GW's trade shenanigans.
His 30% off does not apply to metal, finecast, Black Library or Direct Only items. Pretty much just plastics, paints/supplies and rule books.
I will not/have never posted his name publicly. PM me for it and I'll give it to you, many members here can vouch for my method and his reliability and discounts.
I'm sure he'll offer some sort of tracking, but as always international shipping can be finicky. If you feel the risk is more than the reward is worth, don't do it. I've not heard too many horror stories of shipping from the US to Australia.

Some people ask why I put this out there. I'm not getting anything out of the deal. He doesn't pay me a % of the sales or anything. No one likes GW's prices, and Australia's prices are really out of hand. As such, I like to see people enjoy a hobby without being price gouged. So hit me up and start saving money!

As always, US and CAN members can also ask for the info for their 30% off needs.

I just want to chime in, this is freaking awesome. I'll be sending my PM.

Also shipping from the US to AUS is normally pretty good, I have never had anything come out of the US and have problems getting it.

Does anyone here have a rough idea of what shipping rates are like from here to Aus?

I've never had to send anything there so I have no clue what it would be. For any large orders you'd easily save more than you pay in shipping.

It can vary, I have seen things like the 40k rulebook and the starter sets on ebay being priced with anywhere between $30 to $50 USD on shipping.

Some math for those who might want to see what I'm talking about here.

3 DV sets run $540 AUD which equals $559 USD
3 DV Sets run $300 USD which equals $289 AUD
My guy sells those 3 kits at 70% of US retail, so they really cost $210 USD or $202 AUD plus the shipping.
So from Australian retail prices, you are saving about 63% off.
I'm 100% certain that the shipping on those 3 boxes together isn't $338 AUD, so you end up with some hefty savings even after shipping.

I'd be interested in seeing postal costs to Australia/NZ for the DV box and standalone hardcover rulebook. No point in banging on about the prices without taking shipping into account, as it's obviously a key part of the totals...

I'd imagine the book would up the price a bit because of it's weight.

Does anyone have those two items that can take them to a Postal Annex or Post Office to get a quote on them? Do you honestly think that shipping for those would be more than what you are saving?

If someone knows where to check these things online, nobody needs to go to the trouble of going into a post office. Amazon has weight/size:

Dark Vengeance:

Product Dimensions: 17 x 11.4 x 3.2 inches
Shipping Weight: 2.7 pounds

Rulebook

Product Dimensions: 11 x 8.2 x 1.4 inches
Shipping Weight: 6 pounds

Made in us
Excellent Exalted Champion of Chaos

Lake Forest, California, South Orange County

Here is the rough estimate I got with USPS(UPS and FedEx are ludicrous amounts):

Dark Vengeance and 40k BRB total size:

18x12x6

8.7lbs

USPS price to ship Express Mail International $85.10

GW AUD price $304
GW US price $173.25
30% off price: $121.28 +$6 local shipping
Australia shipping from US $85.10
Total cost in USD: $212.38 = $204.88 AUD

So is $100AUD enough of a savings to be worth your effort?

If amazon lists sizes and weights for all GW plastic kits and books then one could take the 10 minutes to come up with a rough estimate of what their custom order would cost to ship.

I just had a look at just the price on posting a single copy of DV to AUS. Now I'm not saying this is a poor offer from Aerethan or his contact it is very much appreciated as this genetleman/woman doesn't have to do it at all, they are offering a kind service which will help Australian gamers out, if we are smart about it.

If he gets a copy at 30% off of the $99 RRP, which is $69.30, the estimate from USPS online was $47.84. Totalling $117.14 USD which is $112.85 AUD.

Now Australia still has LE DV kits left, so I can only compare against those. So one DV kit sells for $180 RRP, however some online stores here sell for 20% off RRP, so we can get it to $144, taking out $20 for the limited edition, we get down to $124 AUD, which is not a huge saving considering we have to wait for 3 weeks to get it from the US.

Best way for Australians to save is to buy large orders, as the shipping costs scale down faster than the cost of items do.

Yes, for small purchases the shipping will eat up most of the savings, but that is true to some degree for all online buys that don't have free shipping.

My advice is to have friends do group buys so that the shipping goes down per dollar spent.

I've had a look at shipping stuff from the US before, and I'm fairly sure there's a cheaper way to do it than USPS. Stay tuned...

EDIT: I've had a look at where I looked at last time, and these guys use a cheaper method - It's about $20 for a standard tank/battleforce box. I'll look at what I can find, and if I can't find it I'll email these guys (maybe phone them, it's a local call) and get who they use. Which hopefully isn't them shipping stuff themselves.

I don't, but it's a matter of degrees. It's entirely possible that a local discount store may come very close to the US price + postage from the US in some cases, but without the 2-4 week wait and The receiver understands that I cannot guarantee the safety nor timing of the shipment. . Fake edit - true, as you found out. So the "huge savings" in the first post aren't necessarily accurate. I got my DV sets for 20% off Australian RRP with essentially free shipping.

This was my entire point when I questioned you earlier. Most of us probably aren't buying 3 DV sets, after all. I'll keep you/him in mind for future orders. I've been buying stuff off a guy in the US now and then for slightly less than RRP but big savings on the postage, and of course, tracking and insurance. But your friend may work out better in some cases.

Something else to consider:

USPS price to ship Express Mail International $85.10

That's Express Mail, which is a pretty fast service. There ARE cheaper methods:

Priority Mail International on that same package is $67.15 (I gave it 9 lbs as weight) and takes 6-10 business days.

You can also ship First Class International, but the USPS web site doesn't display those prices. I'd wager it's probably $10 to $12 cheaper than Priority.
With those savings, the shipper can send it Registered (I believe that's the term for it), which is a ~$12 option. It's not available to all countries outside the US - and only with First Class Int'l, but I seem to recall that AU is one that you can use it with.

$500 in insurance can be added for $8.20.

The cheaper options are there if you know where to dig or have experience with shipping.

To Australia at least, the current policy is that customs allows purchases of AU$1000 and under through without adding GST. Note that this amount is inclusive of shipping. So it shouldn't be an issue for anyone here, as $1k worth of DM boxes will result in a physical package that is over the size that is accepted for postal orders to Australia - especially if the prices that are actually paid for the products are declared correctly (and legally). - ie a Stegadon being declared at US$40.43 which is the purchase price rather than US$57.75 which is the RRP.
