Recently I purchased an electronic die cutting tool. It is designed for scrapbooking, however it is amazing for terrain and scratch built modeling. I have had it 3 days and think this tool has huge potential. It does an amazing job at cutting plasticard. I only had one sheet and was very impressed. I plan to use this to build a scratch built Thunderhawk. I ordered a few different thicknesses of plasticard in 4 foot x 8 foot pieces. I will keep you all posted as soon as I receive the material. Has anyone else used one of these?

We'll find out soon enough eh.

If this thing can genuinely precision-cut complex templates onto 1mm plasticard, I will be super-super impressed. Even gaming pieces with interior detail(ie, not much room for bracing) would be dead easy, as you could just run each template twice and stick the parts together since they should have exactly the same dimensions.

I'll wait to see if there's any videos of it doing so before buying one myself though, they're over £200 over here :/

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

Mostly, on my phone.

Wow, gonna watch how this progresses. My wife's looking at die-cutters just now anyway for her hobbying.

The best deal I found was from HSN (Home Shopping Network). They are selling these for $190. Here is the LINK. S&H is another $15.

If you are first time buyer, like I was, you can use a COUPON to save 15%. This gets the cost down to $161. With the coupon the cost is almost 50% off retail.

HSN also has an option to make 4 monthly payments on a credit card or debit card you already have. This is nice since you don't need to apply for another credit card and it is interest free. You will only pay $40 a month. I also decided to get the warranty. The warranty covers normal wear and tear. The HSN warranty seems like a good deal for $25 to cover the unit for two years. FYI, the warranty is transferable if you decide to sell it down the road.

So when it is said in done my first payment was $40 (first payment) + $15(S&H) + $25(warranty) = $80. Now just 3 more monthly payments at $40 each.

Check out the eBosser. Its also a die cutting machine (a little smaller), but also does embossing. Would be good for adding surface details.

Says it cuts through fabric and leather, so thicker plasticard should be no problem at all.

Not sure if it works the same way though.. .

It is not a Cricut. I would avoid purchasing a Cricut and trying to use it to cut custom shapes. As best as I can tell Cricut has changed the firmware they have on their new machines so you can’t use your own files. Cricut is focused on selling cartridges that contain their own patterns and shapes. I will put together a comparason of the differant electronic cutting machines and how well I think they would work for modeling.

Great idea! This is the first I have heard of Pepakura. I think I might need to learn how to make 3D models so I can feed them into Pepakura. Thanks for the tip.

Always welcome! There are plenty of ready to use pepakura files on the Web with some cool designs. I'm sure I've seen most of the SM vehicles this way.

I received the styrene in the mail and have been playing around with it a little. The ideal thickness seems to be 0.015" - 0.020". I have found that the ECrafter will score this material perfectly. Light pressure will separate the score line from the waste material. I was able to score 0.060" ( 1mm) styrene. However, I did need to run an exacto along the score. Still I it was a huge time savings. I need to experiment more and I will make a video so you can see exactly how it looks.

I have been focusing the lions share of my time on an IG project. I have used the ECrafter to cut card stock and could not be happier! I made a test piece for you to check out. I used five layers of 110lb card stock.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

If this thing can genuinely handle 0.5mm plasticard that well, it may well be a worthwhile investment; tell me, have you tried cutting two identical pieces and checking how well the edges match up after you remove them?

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

Sorry a follow up video took so long.

The good news is that this tool is awesome, so I decided to go Super Heavy, scratch built Baneblade!
