Glad to see someone on the internet knows proper English, though I never expected it to be an American, no offense.

The Englishman and the Australian would wind up with the same results.
We use some different words in general use, but all the 'official' stuff is the same.

The American took it really seriously because he was a Child champion at a Spelling Bee (sic). The Englishman and Aussie were in the bar drinking and trying to tune the Bar TV into the Cricket.
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest! |

I use to say Codicies as well. Now I say Codexes. Why? As a Tyranid player, I always used the short form for Carnifex as Fex. Then when with the new 5th edition Tyranid codex and you could take a brood of Carnifex, saying Feicies, just didn't seem right (well maybe actually it was at least for 5th edition ) so I stick with Fexes, and now it's Codexes.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

I know right, hahaha, I have no idea why die sounds like a plural to me but it does, I guess my brain was wired wrong or something lol.
Can anyone come up with a codex joke for an englishman, american and australian? or is that basically the thread in a nutshell lol. Still great reading.

Except it's not English, it's Latin. All nouns in the English language are made plurals by adding "s" or "es", with a very few exceptions - "dice" being the only one that comes to mind, although in modern times "dice" can be used singularly and plurally so even that isn't certain.

Both codexes and codices are acceptable, it's like octopi/puses/podes or cacti/cactus or gooses/geese. Claiming that one is proper and the others aren't just makes you look like a smug nerd with a need to put others down.
As an aside, I think people need to realize that dictionaries and such exist to codify english as it used, not to prescribe it. Every dialect is equally as correct as the next.
