Just this conversion but I have two more in the works, so stick around for the rest.

As for the Talon, That is also very sturdy and can hold its own with its GW version. Both are heavy, about the same weight as the GW and just as sturdy.
That's always a good sign. Every time I scratch build something I dread to transport it because of the fear of breaking something in the car or something. Good work all around.
One of the good things about paper models, It glues back together with white glue real easy.
AtariAssasin wrote:That walker is awesome. It's creative and it's well executed. My only criticism would be that the legs seem kinda weak compared to the bulky feel of the top. If i was shooting at that thing id go for the legs right away. Maybe throwing some plating on the sides would help?
Just an observation, great work!
In actuality, That was one of the options that I was considering, something like armor skirts for the leg sections, but I did not want to cover up the detail work on the legs.
Now for those of you who have not seen some of my other scratch builds. I designed and built a riverine unit a while back and then Henry Zou wrote a book about the 31st Riverine Amphibious. It is a pretty good read about an Imperial Guard unit that was abandoned and turned on by the local eclesiatics and forced to fight against the emperor. A story of good guys gone bad. Here are some of the works that I did about Imperial guard riverines. I used Catachans since they seem to have that nautical flair to them, bare chested and seem to be wearing flotation vest most of the time. As the theme for the Talon goes, they are also made out of paper stock. Enjoy the photos while I continue to design that attack chopper.

I figured that I would repost some of the photos of the riverines for those who did not get a chance to check out the build thread on them.
Here is the next installment. I was going to use a GW space marine as the pilot and gunner, but I was challenged to make the figures out of paper as well. So I will show how I made them in the following build process photos.
I have been having some problems with my camera in that it keeps shutting off and killing the batteries too fast. I hope that it will hold out for this build, or I will have to revert to my old 3 megapixel camera. The photos of the cockpit build start up, for some reason, disappeared so I will have to start from the built tub forward. In one of the photos, you will see one of he carved Space marine and the last photo is the start of the building of the figure. Enjoy and see you all soon with more updates.

Since I cannot proceed until the figures are done, here is my attempt at making the Space Marines out of paper. The dremel comes in handy for this part of the carving process. As usual, the size of the picture pixels determine the sequence, so they are numbered because of this discrepancy. Enjoy and see you all next posting.
I have a commission to do a wooden sailing ship. I have three choices, A Virginia intercoastal smuggler Swift boat, A French Galeon Lejon or the San Salvador. I will make some parts from paper but over all, it will be about 80% wood. I have to make it by Thanksgiving, which will make it a rush project. This means that the Attack Heli may be a slow build, maybe.

The figures are finished and now I can dedicate the rest of the build to the Helicopter version. The troop compartment is coming along nicely and after scrutinizing more closely, it looks like a Space Marine stretch Limousine.

Viktor, It is always good to check on something and get a surprise, (a good surprise). I am glad that you are still checking on my stuff. As for the ship, It will be on scale with the Warhammer, LOTR figures. If I should decide to post the build here, it would probably bet posted as a Corsair or pirate ship. It will be a two masted ship with no yard arms.
I did not make the seat belts and that is another option that can be done if it was done as a troop carrier, but this version will be a weapons platform.
If this was an imperial guard chopper, The cabin would have been a two side by side seater instead of piggy back. The cabin is big enough for two guardsmen. I will do the doors to see how it would look with them but I will not use them in the final project due to the weapons update which will need the doors open.

well i was ill the last coupla days... so no fun using the webways for me... too much coughing ruins even my crappy spelling
as for the ship... please do show it here.... your stuff is an education and a half!
which makes me ask this: how do you plan your projects? how do you come up with the carrier idea? do you do some sketches first?

Sorry to hear about your cold. If you were here in the U.S.A., I would have recommended some thera flu or good old chicken soup. But I also found out that if I drink apricot brandy, it burns the mucus as it goes down and soothes the throat, but drink it in moderation of course, cannot have any blade cuts on the modeling pieces.
I have the research and some plans for the Virginia Swift boat, circa 1840-1890. I will have to find a niche for it here.
As for the planning process, Well that is a yes and a no at the same time. The idea pops into my head and I start to work from my imagination. With the Talon, I had a starter plan already in place that I could work from. And yes, sometimes I do make a sketch as to what I want to do and work from that. But mostly, I still rely on my imagination.
So here are some more photo updates on the Storm attack Helicopter.

absolutly not!
fingers will mend aynway^^
oh and i did have good old chicken soup! it´s a must! actually since i have smaller kids... no alc at home is used anymore... sometimes i feel a small ping of sadness as apricot brandy sure would have been fun... but if you´re a father then you are in service 24/7 and being slightly tipsy in the middle of the night is a no go for me when the kid might be in need of a new blanket after a small youngish accident... so mostly i get my kick from sweets
very convincing looking blades... very good looking shape!

actually i expected such an answer^^... i tend to make sketches... sometimes i stick to them and sometimes (make that mostly ) i stray from that path... lol
and those greebles sure make that model pop something good!!!

Vicktor, I understand about the little kinders. On a separate note, the last time I was in Berlin, the wall was up and Check point Charlie was active. And the foreign military were classified as occupying powers. The old East German territory has come a long ways since the Soviet occupation. I have the luxury of having my children in their 40's and the occasional visit from the third generation who I try to spoil, but not too much.
Here are some more updates on the 40K chopper. Postings may be sporadic from here on. I will be working on the Virginia Swift boat soon. The model is taking shape and the weapons are not done yet. Still considering the weapons components for it. Enjoy and see you all soon with more updates.

Actually Viktor, the cannons are the easiest part of the ship model but that will be for another build thread.
And now to continue on with more updates on the helicopter.

The paper sticks are ear swabs (Q-tips) You can also find them at craft stores or confectionery baking sections for making lollipops.
I am starting on the ship and doing the rib preparations. In the meantime, here are some more updates. The helicopter is almost done.

The paper sticks can also be found at the crafts stores or at the bakery section for making lollipops
The Chimera if you print it out as A4 size, it will come out about 1/35 scale. You may have to reduce the size to U.S. Standard paper size 8x11. Have fun doing it and follow the build thread.
The helicopter is supposed to have a chin mounted gatling as an option but then, those can be added later on. I think that I will leave it as is for now since I have to get on with something else outside the Sci Fi world, but I will be back to 40K again. I still have to finish that drop ship. Here are some more photos for your enjoyment and see you all the next posting.

Hey Silver, just seen your blog on the Dakka homepage and reminded me to check back in on progress. Boy was it worth it - your walker is superb and I love your attack chopper. I think the Talon really lends itself to this conversion and something that I've been considering doing at some point.
As for your IG boats, I've seen them before and was previously inspired to build one based on a Vietnam war era PBR, one day I'll give it a go - it's been added to my 'To Do List' which just seems to get longer and longer...
