Steam has just pointed this out to me, and I must say I'm intrigued; it's certainly adding something that I've wanted in some games for quite a while now, and some of the features look interesting (for example, you and your spouse can adopt up to two children to raise there, which gives the game a lot more of a personal feel). It's only £3.49 too.
But there's a part of me that thinks there must be a catch. £3.49 seems like a very fair price for a DLC like this one, but after Oblivion's infamous Horse Armour DLC, I don't really know if I should trust it.
Does anyone have any experiences with Hearthfire?

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Oh! My! God! This is hilarious. It's the first time I've heard about this and I had to look it up. When I think DLCs can't get any lower it seems I've missed quite a few jewels.

It's pretty entertaining, and pretty customisable, you can make a house that fits your skills.
Down side, carrying 30 pieces of rock and clay around really weighs, so you need a high weight capacity.

Man, skyrim is awesome.
Just last week I started playing it again and found myself hooked. Even after 200 hours of play I still am doing new quests, etc.
For 5 bucks, Ill check it out. If its garbage, I've wasted more money buying a hot dog at the ballpark in the past. If its good -- awesome.

Horse Armor was one of the first instances of DLC in a mainstream game, and, well, you know the rest Definitely some growing pains there. Bethesda got better with DLC in Oblivion and Fallout 3, and Obsidian did them one (or four!) better with the New Vegas DLC.

Its possible... 2 weeks = 336 hours. He played 200, leaving 136 hours of sleeping and food. Meaning that he had about... 9 hours of food time / sleeping time a day.

For £3.50 I picked it up and so do my partner. Sadly she got annoyed with Skyrim when (what I think) a mod that changed Breezehome and the new DLC conflicted. Now I have to help her recover the stuff from Breezehome so she doesnt lose it all.
In regard to all the current DLC for Skyrim, I really cant say much as even though I'v had Dawnguard for about a week I still havnt played it.

As things stand, I have stopped playing my second run in Skyrim on the PS3 and am patiently waiting for a GOTY edition to play on 360. I formally apologize for ever arguing that the PS3 was the superior console. Automatically Appended Next Post: As to Hearthfire, I am extremely disappointed that the DLC did not add more potential mates.

For $5 I think Hearthfire does what it promised. The houses you can built are pretty sweet and you can put everything you need into it which can't be said of other houses already in the game. The amount of customization and time it takes to fully deck out the house is rewarding enough to justify the cost I think.

I dont really see the point in most DLCs for skyrim, after a while someone is goin to release a mod for the game that is in essence the dlc. But i will say that the adopting children is a nice touch for the whole immersion facter if your character marries an NPC

I got it today and I played a few hours in a row, just trying to build up my house as best I can
Its pretty enjoyable for 5 bucks. One (small) highlight: all soups and stews have unique pictures, and a ton of new ones are added
I agree, wish there were more marriage options.

I actually disagree. I think Heathfire shows that developer made DLC, when reasonably priced can be competitive with player made content.
The are few modders who will go the lenths to do what hearthfire has done. Many modders have released player made housing that can be placed in the game world, and a lot of them are really good, but I don't feel that diminishes what Hearthfire offers. The houses you can make are just as good if not better than the ones modders offer, and some of the things you can put in the house did not exist in the game previously.
EDIT: At the same time though I have a gut feeling Hearthfire is a pre-release idea the developers had already tinkered with that didn't make it into the final game, but was resurrected as DLC.
Plus, if you love Animal Crossing, well

I want to gut the code for Hearthfire, and use it to make a bigger mod where you're making an entire hold, and recruit NPCs to live there, then have to deal with the local politics.

Well, I think I found a glitch. If you put dawnguard items on the mannequins, they will respawn if you take them off. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't replace (visually, I mean) what was currently on the mannequin. For example, my set of Ebony Armor is currently wearing vampire boots. Oh, and don't build the trophy room. It may sound awesome, but it really isn't.

Either a Storage room or an Alchemy lab for the North wing.

Can you access the console system (you know, the ~ button on the pc) on the console versions? I found that to be very useful for fixing bugs.

Elder Scrolls games are the only games where you can literally complete the entire game in under a minute
Why on earth did they bother making a console command that complete's every quest in the game anyway?

Bugfixing? In case you can't finish a quest due to glitches?
That's the great thing about Bethesda; they know gamebryo is a piece of crap, so they supply the means to fix it.

Skyrim doesn't use Gamebryo.
And not what I meant. They have a command for complete current quests and complete current quest objective, but there's also a command that literally completes every single quest in the game automatically ("caqs"). I suppose if your testing that's useful but that's some pretty extreme testing XD

Huh, didn't know about the new engine. Now that I think of it, Skyrim does seem to be more stable than FO3. Of course, that's not saying much.
Well, it is a new engine. It would make sense that they have some extreme methods.

There are quite a few random event quests they might not have wanted interfering, and it's easier to autocomplete everything than to hunt them all down and do it one-by-one.

On the plus side, take it and sell it and it's essentially free money
I've enjoyed what I've used in Hearthfire up to now... I liked building the house, good fun...
