I was at a game last night and the opposing player had 3 Stormtalons. When they moved they were impossible to hit. I wanted to get a good AAA option for my Marines. It seems that the only 6th BRB options are attached to fortifcations. Not handy for a Mech Army like mine.

Any ideas?

I was thinking of using the Quad gun from the Aegis Defence line kit and putting it on the back of a Razorback.
50 pts but its STR 7, 4 AP, 4 Shots, Sky fire and interceptor.

Dude that is a Red Rope Ranger par excellence.

Another idea is to make the missle launcher have a SAM capability. Use the same profile as the KRAK missle but make it skyfire.

They would have these weapons in there arsenal.

Nice but when you think of it they would have dedicated AAA units.

I say make the skyfire option a 10 pt add on option to any weapon system.

That's an excellent way to make sure that no one ever takes fliers.

Arguably all ML's should have SAM capability, even on the most basic level something like a heat seeker could be used against a tank and flyer. For marines it would certainly make tactical squads more "tactical" (same should go for CSM sqds)

You mean like a Flakk missle?

Flakk missiles will be added in the next codex, which should be sometime in the next year.

The profile is already in the back of the rulebook for what it will be.

And it will replace the Frag and Krak missiles so it makes the missile launcher almost useless against ground targets. And given the Chaos Codex's placement of the upgrade it might be an option only avaliable to Devestator squads.

Wrong, they are in the Chaos Space Marine Codex now.

Wrong again (at the moment)

Havocs can take them, and they don't replace the Frag or Krak missles.

We are talking about the Space Marine codex. They don't have Flakk missiles currently.

And I could have sworn Flakk missiles made you lose your Frag and Krak missiles.

Thats ok

And that does make me wonder why everyone was complaining about the Flakk missiles on the Havocs. The way people were complaining it sounded like they made the Havoc useless in anything but an AA role.

Beats me...

175 for 4 Flakk missles ain't too shabby imo...

Plus its still 4 missile launchers if what you say is true

If devestators get an appropriate HW discount I'd consider taking them at a comperable price.

On 5 MEQ guys? Without Interceptor? The Havocs couldn't even fire their Flakks because the enemy (possibly the flyer, to add to the insult) will Alpha Strike them and GG no RE. 175 points out of the window. And 4 Flakks are barely worth a joke. They can do what... like 2 HP damage against AV10/11? For 175 points (5 points more than a Heldrake, 75 points more than an AEGIS with quad)? Seriously ?

I actually wouldn't be surprised if devastators, etc. (i.e. other SM chapter equivalents to Havocs) get Flakk missile options FAQ'd in fairly soon due to the CSM codex now being out and giving the option.

Marines already have Contemptor Mortis Dreadnoughts, Storm Eagles, Land Raider Helios, Whirlwind Hyperios, Hyperios Air Defense Batteries, and Stormtalons as Skyfire units. Something tells me you should at least know about the latter.

GW is going to take their sweet time putting Flakk missiles into Imperial Codices.

They want to sell Flyers while they're OP

If Flakk missiles from CSM are any indication of the points cost they'd be anywhere else, fliers have nothing to worry about from them.

The only reasonably useful anti-aircraft weapons available to the Space Marines Codex in terms of price of the model and usefulness of the unit are the Contemptor Dreadnaught (expensive, but two twin-linked Skyfire/Intercept autocannons at BS4 is nothing to sneeze at) and the Whirlwind Hyperios (Interceptor/Skyfire krak missile, 35% chance to down an AV10 flyer in one shot) in Imperial Armor Aeronautica if you feel like shelling out for the book; the Whirlwind Hyperios is functionally the same model as a regular Whirlwind, and the Contemptor would take a bit of conversion work on a normal Dreadnaught but could be made off that base.

If I had my way, I'd have an upgrade to give Land Speeder Tornadoes Skyfire. No aircraft would ever be safe.
