I'll start off by saying that I know there's a lot of posts out there griping about finecast, and they are well merited. I think, though, that GW is doing better with them. I've ordered a few Finecast kits from them and there were only small bubbles in inconspicuous places. I still don't like Finecast, but it hasn't wronged me yet.
My friend, on the other hand, had a problem we didn't really expect to happen. He ordered a Tau Ethereal that was holding a spear pointed out in front of him. There was no flaw in the model, other than a slight bend to the spear which my friend could tolerate. (I wouldn't have, but that's moot.) After painting it up beautifully and playing a few games with it, it rests in the case which he bought from GW. It is there for a couple weeks. In those weeks, the model sets in into the slot of the foam and the bend in the spear is worse, nearly at a 90 degree angle. When he goes to use the models again, the warping of the model is seen and disappointment is abound.
My question is, is there anything he can do about this? Finecast is brittle, so bending it back by hand would just snap it. Will GW be able to help him out in this, or is he stuck with a funny looking Ethereal?

I would be extra cautious while doing this though with such a thin piece.
It is recommended that boiling water be used rather than a hair dryer. just give the model a quick soak (while handling it with a tool, as not to burn yourself) bend it into place and dunk it in cold water.

heating finecast causes it to become soft, this can result in the model conforming to any existing bends or flaws the model has.
just leaving it in a warm car can cause this to happen, or any place it gets heated to above normal.
Like was said above, heat the affected part up, bend it back, and then dunk into cold water(possably using Ice) to cause it to harden up.
The is my only true gripe about finecast. Its not tolerent of temperature changes, unlike Plastic and Pewter.
I think GW should swap everything over to plastic. Given the level of detain they've achieved lately I think it would be stunning.

Acrylic paint is not water-soluble once it has dried. It may flake slightly around the bend... But then, if it continues to bend in the case, that may happen anyway.

With a warped model, repainting is going to be required so I wouldn't worry about the paintjob.

Had the absolute identical problem with a Terminator Libby and his staff. Intend to do a weapon swap, so not utterly gutted, but it's pretty unacceptable.

You which model is TERRIBLE in finecast? The C'tan Deceiver model. It's very top heavy (relative to the model) and the entire thing is balanced on two small strands of fine-crap. Mine warped over time so now he's bent at like a 45 degree angle. This is after fixing it twice already since I bought it. *Ugh*
DeffDred wrote: You talking about the old Etherial character from their last codex?
No, it's just a standard Ethereal.
I do like some of these ideas. I'll recommend them to him. I like the one about replacing it entirely. He doesn't seem very interested in modifying models like this, plus I don't know if he even has the bits for it. But, I'll pass these suggestions on to him.
So, I guess the next question is, will GW do anything with it's Failcast, erm... Finecast line? They seem to be proud of it.

Wow, that sucks.

spikey bits did a vid on this and couldnt get it to warp or bend from heat in a car.
Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss
Well, good to know they won't warp due to the surrounding temperature. But they certainly will warp to direct pressure, even slight, when it is applied over time. So take care on how you put your Finecast models in your cases.

Oh look! The one percent!
If you go to the store in warhammer world, they have the crimson fists standard bearer on display. Its placed under a small lamp, and the banner is bent to a 90 degree angle. I pointed it out to them, and apparently its happened so many times that they haven't bothered to fix it. I thought it was funny. xD
if he would put that model on the actual dash board that heats up more then the paint thing he used it would melt faster . worse thing one can do is put finecast models in to a plastic container , like a lure box or something . no there is no raiders of the holy arc special effects but the resin does move inside the models and if it has big weigh supported by something small , like a zoathropes neck it may snap . spears and staffs bend all the time , worse unlike FW resin the hot water trick always work , the finecast models just bend again .

I miss metals.
Just FYI, two my finecast models warped simply because we've been having 90+ degree weather where I live (california) over the past few months. They weren't in direct sunlight and in a room that is cooled by fans at least, and typically have the drapes drawn (it's a bedroom). So, in my experience, they can definitely be warped by surrounding temperature.
The two models in question are my aforementioned C'tan model and my Vargard Obyron. I think a couple of my crypteks warped slightly (not nearly as bad as the other two) as well, but they were painted so i think that helped the crypteks not warp.
Honestly, this issue is driving me to really be vigilant about clear coating my models with Polycrylic.
The sword on my Draigo model did this all the time, even got a 90' bend. Quick dunk in warm (Warm, not hot) water and bend slowly back slightly. Reheat, bend a little. Keep going untill fixed. The cold water plunge. Good as new and the paint stays perfect.
