Yeah, they just started doing just this.

As aid above, the new Aspiring Champion is one of those single frame characters. I'd guess GW were waiting on 6th edition before they dived into it for 40k - Fantasy they did it as a test bed.

I wouldn't expect the same level of support Fantasy gets with them though - the idea is to represent minor generic characters. Fantasy has these in spades, 40k doesn't. So while a Fantasy army might get 3-4 per army, I'd only expect 1-2 per 40k army.

Mostly because 40k gets a lot more plastic kits in the shape of vehicles and such, which means they have higher priorities for the designers than coming up with plastic characters. Also because it's usually easier to assemble a 40k character out of spare parts than it is to assemble a Fantasy character (you should see my kitbashed Khorne Lord, base body from a normal CSM box, then he's got this giant flowing crest made of green stuff and a 3e Dark Eldar helmet plume and he's standing on a mountain of skulls clipped off trophy racks from every spare part I've got).

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

The sky is also blue, but I don't know what this has to do with the thread at hand.

The Aspiring Champion model is lovely, as is the plastic Chaplain. I'm glad GW finally got around to plastic character sprues, since I've been jealous of the Fantasy ones since they dropped.

I wouldn't mind seeing that plastic Chaplain out since his sprue is pretty much the same as those FB characters. Though I suppose if he did people would start complaining...

I'm sorta surprised with the cost they charge for there HQ that they havent just placed them into there kits.

Like you buy a guardian box and get the bits to make one farseer or one warlock.
The aspect kits give bits for making an autarch with or even the specal characters.
Cut down on kits for each army I would expect.

But as to the question it could be as simple as corperaitions are slow to adapt and change.

Yeah. My thoughts exactly when I read the title.

They are here. Dark Vengeance LE Chaplain was a taster as it was on a single sprue (though not available separately). Aspiring Champion is probably the first "official" single plastic character for sale. More will surely follow with future releases (incl., possibly expansions. I don't think they really hit fantasy until Storm of Magic, or did they?).

Of course there're also the old Space Marines Captain and CSM Terminator Lord. But I guess those don't count?

Y'know i'd actually quite forgotten or never known the new champ was plastic.

But why put limited plastic resources into that figure? I mean he's nice enough but we can already kit bash tons of champs out of the existing kits. Why not do the Warp Smith with all his fiddly little bits or make an oblit in plastic with a few custom options?

But if they've done one, hopefully there will be more.

They're several years old, none of the other armies ever got anything like them, and they not the most inspiring kits ever.

I boycotted the SM captain when I realized he only got one lightning claw!

It's the differences between the two games. In fantasy heroes are necessary practically a prerequisite to success. In 40k they're almost comparable to the necessity of special or heavy weapons. To that end in Fantasy the anticipated sales can justify the investment into plastics. Your example of Warpsmith, not every chaos army has one while most Fantasy armies have a champion and a sorcerer. The plastic Aspiring Champion is a good example of what GW thinks plastic character models should be something every chaos army would tend to have one copy.
