Old ones leave our universe after the necron / eldar debacle and move to greener pastures and begin making races again in a hope to cleanse the previous universe of its many imperfections (orks, necrons). They create the perfect formula... The Tyranids! Which explains why some of the nids bio weapons have a slight resemblance to eldar weapons and why the Silent king of the necrons hates Tyranids so much (as he has been to the galaxy they are coming from if i recall correctly). Also in the old necron fluff didn't they need to harvest flesh for the C'tan? Mabye tyranids consuming everything was a way to fight the C'tan aswell! (although the cron retcon makes that a bit invalid).. Rediculous? mabye.. Plausible? probably not.. Did I have fun day dreaming about it? hell yeh!

Nids have a slight resembalance to Eldar because they "absorb" the DNA of what they eat, and combine it with their own to make new "strains" of nid. The Zoanthrope is a perfect example of a nid "enhanced" by a specific race, ie the eldar, increasing it's psychic power.

This is why it is so important for the Imperium to keep nids away from certain areas of the galaxy. If they "inheritied" traits from certain creatures, they would become an even great threat.

(So i am led to believe)

York/London(for weekends) oh for the glory of the british rail industry

Why would they create a race that did not attack the Old Ones actual enemy, the necron?

Relictors: 1500pts

its safe to say that relictors are the greatest army a man , nay human can own.

This.

Old ones creating the nids wouldn't make any sense. Considering the crons were the old ones nemesis and the entire reason the eldar, ork and human races were created then it doesn't make sense for them to have created the nids. The nids avoid the crons and only eat the biological stuff.

5th edition rulebook states the Tyranids have devoured 12 galaxies before ours. Considering their new travel method of not-quite-FTL, that's a really long way to travel for the old ones, create the Tyranids, then they make their way back. Basically, pure distance is against this theory.

I missed that part. Since the book is written from the Imperium point of view, how would they have known how many galaxies were devoured?

Tyranid fluff isn't written from the Imperiums point of view anymore, because the writers don't know how to. It's just some omnipresent being that knows everything.
