I don't like the Boon of Chaos table. My Death Guard Champion shouldn't be gettin' Tzeentchian gifts. Ah well, this Codex is still better than the last one. It's just...

I dunno, maybe instead of adding gakky new units (Mutilators, Warp-Talons, Warpsmiths, Maulerfiends, Forgefiends) they should've focused on giving more options to the existing units. I would be fine with giving up every new unit in exchange for Cult Terminators and Legion rules.

My initial response off the OP is this:
Making all the Termis characters would give them all Precision Shots / Strikes.

CSM Vehicles can take an additional 5 guns (Combi-Bolter, Combi-Flamer, Combi-Plasma, Combi-Melta and Havoc Launcher). I see a 'standard' useful loadout for Rhinos boasting a CombiBolter, Combi-Plasma/Melta and a Havoc Launcher (possibly with Warpflame Gargoyles) which gives you a reasonable fire platform for 62-67pts.

The Black Mace is pretty crazy.
Yes it's an AP4 weapon, but unsaved wounds will cause a Hex Rifle effect (take a toughness test, if failed, that model is removed from play.)
THEN at the end of a combat phase where it causes a wound, every model it DIDN'T wound within 3 inches needs to pass a toughness test or gets removed.
Using Hex Rifles in my Dark Eldar (that are AP4 sniper weapons that do the same thing per each wound for 15pts each, where you can get 1 per troops choice or 3 per HQ slot) this effect is pretty good.

Personally my CSM force is mostly for fun, Fabius Bile and giant monsters, but I intend to run a barebones Terminator Lord with a Black Mace.

Not really having anything to draw from (as I held off starting my Chaos force till the new Codex) I have no particular problems with this book.

I agree, in a vaccum this is a good codex, it really is.

Tzeentch terminators are not *official* rubric marines, but they are tougher to kill than regular terminators with their increased invulnerable save, so you can call them whatever you want. They just don't have a specific entry for "Thousand sons terminators". Include them in the list and imagine them to be rubric marines in terminator armor. It is that simple.

GK Paladins are not *official* rubric marines but they are tougher to kill than regular terminators with their 2 wounds so call them whatever you want. Also, unlike CSM terminators with the Mark of Tzeentch they can use psychic powers.

That is fine for you, but plenty of us wouldn't be fine with that. Some of us like new units and are happy that we aren't forced to take cult terminators or focus even more on the legions. My forces have always been my own forces. I have khorne, slaanesh and nurgle chaos marine armies not World Eaters, Thousand Sons and Death Guard. I like the Warp-talons, warpsmiths and the fiends as well.

As for the Boon of chaos table exactly what boons are specifically Tzeentchian? None that I can see. They are generic enough that it shouldn't matter who you follow and given the random vagries of chaos it matters even less. We played chaos warband leagues for years and it was always amusing the the Khorne champion would get magical ability that they couldn't use as a chaos reward/mutation. Just clearly showed the fickle nature of chaos in a very stark light.

Ooo neener neener...that was so cool what you did. If CSM terminators were rubric marines they wouldn't have psychic powers anyway because they are animateds suits of armor and not psykers.

Of course nothing stops someone from making a Thousand Sons army using the GK list either, so what do you know.

Having an option to do something does not force you to do it. More options for everyone are good, even if you personally have no reason to use those options. Fewer options, and more forcing is bad. The Boon table, itself, is an incentive to challenge. That's good. Being forced to challenge, even if it's an unwise tactical move, is bad.

You could always kill with shooting to get boons, it doesn't say they have to die during the challenge to get them.

I have completely scanned in HD every single page of the Chaos Codex. I then Shredded my codex, put it in a box with a letter.

The letter read:

Dear Phil, Matt, and GW,

You guys are so stupid.

Thanks,
Lando.

Ummm...Redbeard I was responding to someone who would have been happy to see no new units at all as long as there were cult terminators and better legion rules, hence my comments. I am not trying to limit anyone's choices, but was responding to someone who would have been happy if the choices had been limited.
