I feel like if the same minis were judged by the same people two weeks later, the results very well could have been different. People get caught up in first, second, and third, better and worse, ranking this way and that... It's an opinionated evaluation of skill, not a fact. These judges have a singlular, personal perspective just like everyone else. There is no real good or bad, just appeals to opinion when it comes to the evaluation of any artistic expression. You ever have a favorite song on an album, only to realize it gets replaced by another a few weeks later?

Just because one mini didn't win over another doesn't mean it's not as good, it just means these particular people didn't like it as much on this particular day. Their judgement isn't absolute truth.

Wow! The photos in just this thread of the ork are like three different paint jobs. The first shot is flat and seems hardly great, the ones posted by MajorTom11 in outdoor natural light are awesome (in my opinion) and the studio shots from Sergeant Blackart are garish (again, my opinion).

The later two, at least, show the amazing skill of the artist but the color palette appears so different.

As several have said, paint judging is subjective why would one take it so hard. But if you are competing to promote yourself commercially as an artist and you feel the judging was skewed I can see people getting overheated.

It will be interesting to hear all of the story.

I'm sorry, but there's no photo about the "fight" at the italian GD, because there wasn't a fight, one reported about it on a german forum but he wasn't in Modena.

Thanks for the information. Internet rumor spreads faster than truth.
The upside is that I have now discovered your excellent blog and enjoyed your interview with the artist, with Luciano Rossetto.

Thanks for your kind words Teeef. Coming back and speaking about pictures, the one that you can see in our blog are quite close to reality and i think that you can check it better from the showreel on youtube.

Total agreement the video is great.

On the color palette discussion. I don't mean that the studio shot is not good quality or an accurate depiction. My comment was more to that I really like the subtle palette as it appears in the outdoor photo. The video also seems to show a more subtle palette where as the reds and greens are bright and the color more saturated in the studio shot. These differences are neither good nor bad but speak to the subjective nature of color.

The more I look over this model the more amazed I am by the details in the grots and equipment.

European painters are leagues ahead of American painters, they treat miniature painting like an art rather than a hobby. I remember when the US used to have 3-4 different Games Days each year there were a group of us that hoped to get lucky and win a Demon due to the dilution in quality. The closest I got was in the final five models for judging, and I am extremely pleased with that.
