Hey dakka,

I'm in the position where I can buy an old csm battleforce from someone but I'm having trouble finding out what was in it. I'm even having trouble finding a picture of the one concerned except for this really bad one.
Any clues?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you! Would those be the latest models? And how do you check old pages on GW? Might be a good thing to know

Just punch in games-workshop.com and pick a date they have, also note that most of the time pictures don't work (would take alot of HD space to save all the nets pictures)

I am pretty sure all the models included in the box haven't changed much, save a banner/chosen spure that comes with the standard CSM troops these days.

The previous battleforce was identical to the newest one except it had 8 Berserkers instead of bikes. And was more expensive.

Not sure about anything before that though.

This was the last one (the one following the OPs Battleforce)

and this is the most up to date battle force

Yep. All I know that has changed from the 4th ed Battleforce is the swap of Berserkers to Bikers. Still get the Rhino, 5 possessed and the 10 Marines.

The Chaos Marines in the old battleforce (the one the OP is mentioning) only came 8 to a squad, and didn't have as many options as the current kit. They look largely similar, but there are a lot more options in the current kit, including icons, close combat weapons, champion gear, special weapons, and more heads/shoulders/torsos. There might be 12 Berserkers in there also, instead of the 8 that come in more recent battleforces. Berserkers, Rhinos, and Chaos bikes haven't changed since then, so you'll have their most up to date models.

Except that the previous battleforce to what we have now had an extra 5 CSM in addition to the squad of ten...

So really we lost 5 marines and 8 zerkers for the 3 bikes.... not a very even trade.

Its cheaper though. The previous one cost £80 over here. The 6th ed one costs just £70. Still charging an arm and a leg but you get to keep your toes now!

At least they got something right with this release. They knew berzerkers would be rubbish under the new rules, so they sent them to the trash bin. And nicely added one of the more powerful units in the new codex.

The problem is that the Chaos biker models have next to no options and leave unsightly seams and gaps, much like their loyalist equivalents. I swear, it took GW til Dark Vengeance to make decent plastic Marine bikes.
