Hello all.

Last year I got around to buying the Trollblood Starter Box and a Dire Troll Mauler. I want to expand, however I'm not fond (visually) of the Troll infantry. This brings me to my next point: I should be able include Farrow Slaughterhousers because they are Minions. Is this true? I'm not entirely sure how the system works.

Next, could I use a Minions warbeast with a Troll Warlock?

And which elements of my Troll army could I use if I used a Minions (Farrow, in particular) Warlock?

Cheers!

Farrow Slaughterhousers are fair game with Trolls, but only Minion warlocks can take Minion warbeasts. That being said, you COULD however bring Wrongeye & Snapjaw and attach a gator warbeast to Wrongeye, or bring Rorsch & Brine and attach a farrow warbeast to Rorsch.

Finally, if you use a minion warlock as your leader, you won't be able to bring any trollbloods (unless you're playing large games with multiple warlocks)

Okay cool, I look forward to slowly expanding to the Farrow side of Minions, and now that I know that I can begin with the infantry with my Trolls; all the better!

Here is the "cheatsheet" for minions.

Similar to mercenaries, only minion warlocks can take minion warbeasts. and it gets even more specific - the farrow warbeasts can only be used by farrow warlocks, and the gator/swampy warbeasts can only be used by the blindwater casters. So no, Borka can not go rolling with a wraster. And Madrak cannot go stomping with a Warhog.

Regarding minion casters, you can take them as part of a "parent force" only so long as you're playing a game where 2 casters are fielded - in this case a minion caster can be taken as the second warlock. but you cannot have a troll army led by lord carver and a farrow warpack! Im sorry, but thats just not doable- minion casters can be taken as part of a minion "pact" - we've got 2. blindwater (leather), and thornfall (bacon) or they have their theme forces. and alas, "trolls" and "trollbloods" do not turn up in any of these!

Regarding minion solos and units - it'll say it on the card who they work for. if they work for trolls, and you have the points for them, you can field them.

Be wary though. the problem with minions is while they might be "friendly models", they wont be "friendly faction models", so a whole bunch of spells and feats that specify "friendly faction model" cannot be used on them. Warmachine factions have a get out of jail clause here, with their "ranking officers" that make mercenaries count as being faction models while fielded with them, but Hordes factions dont have anything like this with regard to minions. So yes, while they can plug holes in your factions' weakpoints, they have their own limitations too.

Before you dive too heavily into Trolls, know that they rely heavily upon their superior infintry. If you don't like their models, you might consider switching factions because short of eDoomie and a few beast heavy lists, a lot of lists are Troll infintry heavy.

To remember,

When you add in Minions or Mercs to a main faction, they are not friendly faction models, in faction buffs mostly do not work on them, same with abilities.

I'm thinking of setting more off into Farrow territory; I simply cannot get enough of those models.

Maybe it helps that I had an impulse buy of Carver and a Gun Board today at my FLGS... Anybody know any good sites other than BattleCollege where I may do a little homework?

The Privateer Press forums are an awesome resource for all things Hordes. Check out the Minions forums and see what everyone has to say, a lot of very friendly players there.
Pigs are fun, and they look great on the table as an army.

If you like the models, going fully Minions is probably a far better bet than going for a Trollblood army where you don't take any of their infantry, and it sounds like the right direction for you. Just remember that they're only half of Minions as a faction, and you'll probably feel extremely restricted if you don't get into both halves of the faction.

As for resources, as others have said PP is your best bet, they have a Tactical break down stickied on each faction forum, but just asking around the various other forums (such as here), you'll get some decent advice.

Something to note is that you can take the Lesser Warlocks (Rorsh & Brine, or Wrongeye & Snapjaw) with a Troll force, and if inclined, you can give them additional Minion warbeasts of the appropriate type.

"The 75mm gun is firing. The 37mm gun is firing, but is traversed round the wrong way. The Browning is jammed. I am saying "Driver, advance." and the driver, who can't hear me, is reversing. And as I look over the top of the turret and see twelve enemy tanks fifty yards away, someone hands me a cheese sandwich."
