I'm working on a Carcharodons army using the Space Wolves codex to better represent their savagery. One unit I'd be very keen on using, though, is the Thunderwolf Cavalry. The trouble is that I can't think of a decent "count as" to use them in a Carcharodons list. A few ideas I've had are to use bikes, but they don't feel very melee, and then there is the confusion between what I'm trying to represent with the models. I've also considered doing some sort of scratch built boarding machine like a futuristic siege battering ram or a drill, which is closer, but still sub optimal. I've also thought of using a model in a large suit like the loader from Aliens, but now it would either feel like a Grey Knights Dreadknight or a standard Terminator. I was hoping someone had a decent idea out there. Thank you for your time.

This.

I'll let myself out.

But seriously, your only option is either to make some heavier Bikes, sort of Quads or something or have some other alien riding beastie, that or robo were sharks.

For my Guard rough riders I did a high mobility powered exo-suit. You could try something similar for Thunderwolves maybe, but scaled up for marine size?

It could be similar to the Dreadknight concept, but smaller and look faster. Some combination of Sentinel legs and jump pack turbines perhaps, with a close combat arms and a Marine pilot?

A Space Marine riding a mechanically, and I'll assume genetically, enhanced flying shark of death. Your move, Games Workshop.

By the way, those suits look fantastic. What do you use those as? Count as cavalry?

This one came to mind as I was going to sleep. How does a boarding bike sound? I'm thinking of an antigrav bike with blades and spikes on the front. They're built for moving through the narrow corridors of a space vessel, making anyone standing in those corridors sorry that they didn't hang out somewhere else.

I also considered essentially a mechanical spider or crab to be ridden. It would show the close combat attacks a bit better, but I'm concerned that something like a spider could read a little too Necron. Granted, the antigrav bike is a bit Dark Eldar, but whatever. It would be agile enough to move through corridors.

If you want to go nuts, true "space sharks": http://www.miniaturemarket.com/3622.html . It would be fun to see SM riding these bad boys.

The bike idea could work, you could put blades or more mounted weapons on it to make it feel more melee based.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Sounds like a mix of Space marine bikers and DE Reaver jetbikes.

Awesome! Do it.

For the boarding vehicle - have you looked at Forge worlds Hades Breaching Drill?

The exo-suits are counts-as rough rider cavalry.

I've also done imperial spider-mechs, its like you've been reading my mind

Less goofy than Grimtuf, but same basic idea:

And Chapterhouse hasn't been required to stop yet, so you can still get their version. I don't expect them to win their case with GW though, so if you want anything they make, get it now.

I giggled at that stupid comic. Brilliant. I've joked that I can just make up stuff in the Space Wolves codex if I just throw the word "Wolf" into it. Like the Wolf Paw Charm which is a 2++ save or the Runes Of The Wolf, which give all models within 24" Relentless.

You guys have been very helpful. I'll probably move forward with those Jetbikes, they look fantastic. I figure with a few Chaos-y bits, it'll be exactly what I need. I still want to do some screw around stuff with those boarding spiders as sort of a fun little experiment.

By the way, the Chaos stuff may sound odd, but I think it's a great idea. I can either spend 46 British Pounds (thats north of two grand in 'Merican) on ten of their fantastic ancient armors or I can basically kitbash SM and Chaos. All the Chaos stuff is ancient armor with spikes and skulls on it. An army like the Carcharodons would love the spikes and all that anyway, so that's cool, but if any of it is too much, it's a simple shave.

You can get a rather neat hover/jetbike from Eldar jetbikes and Scout/marine bikes

Its even got a bit of a shark aesthetic

I had the same issue with my Sharks. I just wont bother, because its nigh impossible to represent accurately. Jetbikes and bikes have rules too different for Cavalry, imo. Of course, Wolf Cav seems less useful now anyhow, so that is good.

Totally agree that a jetbike is the simplest option for a shark-themed army, in terms of finding a suitable model, and avoiding in-game confusion with normal bikes.

That Thunder-Assault-Speeder jetbike you've found is nice - the only obvious downside is that its front is relatively difficult to paint a toothy shark snarl on And something a little more shark-shaped would be nice for fluff reasons...

The grill of the thing already looks like shark's teeth to me. And I don't want to go too litteral with the Shark think, for the same reason I don't think everything for the Wolves should be wolves. Obviously, GW doesn't have that problem.

Rather than going shark for everything, I basically just wanted to go savage with everything. To represent the Mark of the Wulfen, I plan on using these guys.

And all my Terminators are equipped with a Wolf Claw and a Power Fist, and to keep the two prong theme, I'll be throwing these on them.

I've got a similar plan myself, but I'll be mixing in the open handed sets as well. Wicked aren't they?
I'm a fan of the idea for using the Eldar Jetbikes. It's a smooth surface to play with, that doesn't look like a typical bike. Not a fan of a flying shark (as crazy as a giant wolf may be, a flying shark is a tad further out there).

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

By the way, since the last time I asked this on here, I didn't get any responses and this one seems to be getting some traffic, does anyone have a better image of what's on the Forgeworld Carcharodons Transfer sheet? I can't make out much beyond the arrows, skulls and shark symbol.

If no one else does before I get a chance, I will post this later for you.

The FW transfer sheets have the shark symbols, but also little Maori tattoo style markings like FW uses on their sharks model. The arrows and skulls also have these tribal style markings incorporated into them, that's why they look different.

Those are pretty sexy when you can actually see what you're looking at.

Thank you very much for the pics. I really appreciate the quick response, and those do look fantastic. I've been practicing with space models and old transfers to get my technique down in preparation of using those.

The 40k universe alredy have space whales (creatures with the size of spaceship, whit natural life cycle who goes trought the void).

Space marines armor are isolated, they have life support system, and can withstand the void.

Space Sharks (as a spiece) dont sound so strange anyway. Other thing you can do is model the sharks as if they where underwater... It could be very nice to see a Space Sharks army all converted to look underwater.

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...

Unfortunately for your cool plan of underwater models, I have no talent. Furthermore, what drew me to the Carcharodons wasn't the idea of Space Marine Sharks, and, in fact, I didn't know what a Carcharodon was until I searched Google for more information. I was not prepared for that many teeth to pop up that fast. Either way, I just liked the idea of an essentially void based army that has little more on its collective mind than violence. I have never cared too much for people who say "I wanted to do something a little more realistic with my robotic space undead army" or "I felt that a squad of green space cannibals felt a little cartoony in an army of blue skinned anime characters." There is no such thing as too out there. Unfortunately, a Space Marine riding an actual giant mechanical shark doesn't fit what I'm looking for.
But I sure am glad that I saw a great model that someone did of it.

No problem. I remember when I was planning my Sharks, I would have killed to see them up close - mostly for the names.

If you haven't seen them, check out the Painting Bunker Carcharodons, too. That should suitably inspire anyone.
