So after looking around for a while and researching it seems that there is an eventual end to the Warhammer 40k universe although the people at Gamesworkshop will never end it. Based on the Lion el Johnson being revived in time for the Final Battle, Robute Guilliman being revived for i am guessing the same reason, and Leman Russ will return for the Final Battle or as the Space Wolves call it the Wolf Time. .

Lots of cultures have 'End of the World' myths. Doesn't mean that they will ever actually happen...

Leman Russ wandering off and vowing to return for the Wolf Time is supposed to be an inspiring story for the Space Wolves, not a proof positive that he'll ever actually come back.

Well, perhaps it's going to be a metaphorical return. Maybe, say, a single Leman Russ battle tank plays a pivotal role in the final battle for mankind? Like it hurls a battlecannon round through Magnus the Red's eye, or something.

The end of 40k?

GW will eventually ruin their own rules to the point no one will play.

Then they'll price themselves out of most peoples lives.

All that will remain will be the most annoying kind of gamers.

Everyone will stop caring about what GW has got to offer.

The BL books will die out as the authors move on to something better.

Then with a few suicides in Nottingham the world of 40k ends forever.

He's not the only Primarch to talk about the end times (clearly what Russ calls the Wolf Time) though. Vulkan and Corax both vowed to return at such a time as well.

Although he's my favorite Primarch, Corax never said he'd come back. In fact he only said "never more" before he left.

The whole Corax thing was someone in GW thinking they were being clever. But there's a thousand metaphorical ways they could be worked into a return too! The final battle for man would have to take place on Terra. What if a raven that inexplicably says "nevermore" directs someone to the secret drop site of the chaos forces?
Vulkan too? Well if he's going to "return" it ought to be through the glorious intervention of something he himself built. There's a list of Vulkan's artifacts that He'stan is looking for that Vulkan cleverly hid, or something. Let's pick one randomly right now. How about...the unbound flame. Sounds like a gun, like a huge laser gun mounted on a ship, a sort of melta death star. I can totally see something like that nuking chaos off of Terra if Abaddon ever gets that far and someone is like "oh, Vulkan just helped us."

It's a long read and the fluff is a bit out of date (it's got the old necrons and a role I think would be better filled by the sanguinor is filled by something else). But it's gotten warm reviews. TV tropes recommends it and someone even briefly stole it to sell as a download.

Hell, lemme just put it in my signature

You are the original author of that? If so....

Anyone who was interested enough to click on this thread should read CuddlySquig's story. It's very well done.

Demons take over the IoM, the Eldar are expunged as the galaxy shrinks from the darkness, orks kill everyone including the tau, then get eaten by tyranids, and what's left of the the galaxy is obliterated by a necron "Halo" like device that annihaltes the entire galaxy. That is the end of 40k,

I would like to see the story end in one of two ways.

The Tau are FINALLY Exterminated in a crusade by the IOM.
Some sort of new Psychic scourge is created like in the Game which decimates the ork populations.
The eldar craftworlds are destroyed by the dark eldar who are then in turn destroyed by a chaos invasion of Comorragh.
The Necrons lose almost all there numbers attacking chaos in the eye of terror.
Abaddon launches a 14th black crusade invading and almost decimating cadia before a sudden appearance of the 13th space wolves company led by Leman russ drives them back, Leman russ kills Abaddon in a duel and Kharn is slain by the other space wolfs of 13th company,

The golden throne fails but the emperor is not killed and is reincarnate into a new form (which will happen when he dies) the whole of the Imperium then makes a last ditch all out crusade led by the emperor into the eye of terror driving back the chaos forces and defeating them once and for all and use the Cadian pylons to close the eye, In doing this the emperor and 90% of all the Space marines are lost, Marneus calgar is finally healed and becomes the new leader of humanity and the Imperium enters a new golden age and rises out of the darkness and they all live happily ever after hehe

Or-

The tau make huge scientific advances and sack the entire eastern fringe.
The orks loot countless imperial world.
The new Super hive fleet which is 50 times bigger than all other hive fleets combined (which is prophesied to arrive) decimates the orks
Slaanesh Invades commaragh
The eldar craftworlds flee the galaxy and seek a new beginning elsewhere in the universe.
Necron tombs awaken all over the galaxy and destroy the planets they are on (including mars) then shift there attention to the eye of terror and are all lost attacking it though chaos is badly weakened by this.
Chaos then launches a 14th black crusade on the already seriously weakened IOM, sack most of the segmentum solar, Citizens flee in there millions from terra and seek new beginnings elsewhere in the universe like the eldar, chaos then throws everything it has at terra and the emperor uses some super duper magic and destroys terra himself and all the chaos forces there including the chaos charectors like abaddon etc the tau then find a way to use the cadian pylons to close the eye of terror and become the dominant race in galaxy hahahha

while the surviving humans and eldar make an alliance and drive them out and destroy them then rule the galaxy together as allies the end haha

well here's the thing.... you're right.

the end is near? no. don't forget that the nids came from a different dimension. when they take over the humans will flee from them, and with humans comes chaos.

Chaos existed long before humans. As long as there is emotion in a species with psychic potential, Chaos will exist. Even the Cabal's attempt to kill it in Legion would probably only have resulted in the destruction of the current gods, simply clearing the way for new ones to be born when the next dominant species repeats the same mistakes.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

The problem I have with the "main body of Tyranids arrive, everyone else loses" idea is that in order for the Tyranids to "win", they have to beat the Imperium. To beat the Imperium, they must first bring it to the breaking point. If they do that, the Golden Throne will fail, daemons will flood the galaxy, and the Tyranids will find themselves beaten at their own game (biomass? we don't NEED no stinkin' biomass!).

So really, the Tyranids don't have a win condition, unless someone not warp-sensitive (Necrons could be an example) somehow wipe out all the races that feed Chaos while keeping the Golden Throne going until the end. Then the Tyranids would have a way to win.

This, of course, assumes that Tyranids don't feed the Chaos Gods. If they do (and provide enough sustenance for them to sustain themselves at a great enough force level to still beat the Tyranids), then the Tyranids don't have any way to win.

I think the Orks and Tyranids will be fighting an endless battle long after the other races have turned to dust. They are both very hard to eradicate because of how they reproduce and I don't really see any way for a faction like the Imperium or Eldar to truly defeat them.

The Orks could not amass a large enough Waaagh! to defeat the Tyranids because of in-fighting (especially if there are no more SM, Eldar, etc. to fight). The Tyranids would not be able to truly defeat the Orks because of how they reproduce. It would be an eternal stalemate (Orky Heaven.)

I suspect that there will just be a massive standoff to the end of times, as none will be able to truely wipe out anyone else without getting himself wiped out in the process...

Are nids impervious to chaos taint? Isn't it possible that chaos helped nids to become what they are in a neighboring galaxy (the ultimate galactic reset button) and now they are coming into our Milky Way galaxy to eat everything and leave out galaxy barren and devoid of life. Or maybe that makes them the anti chaos as a barren and devoid galaxy feeds no emotions or energy into the warp?
