this will be my first time posting photos of my work on DakkaDakka, so we will see if I'm doing this right.

This is the start of a DKoK army that I am building, and was wanting to get some opinions on the chosen color scheme, the painting and the basing that i am using, basically i would like a lot of feedback on these models if possible.

Nice start to the army, i like the the choice of colors. The blue on the coats is nicely done and the leather on the backpacks is simple and cleanly done, how did you achieve that look? The bases are awsome as well!! Good job dude I've always liked these models i look forward to seeing this army come together!!!

As a lover of 18th/19th century military history the blue coats really appeal, they're dark enough, though, to fit the 40k aesthetic. Immaculate painting in general, a great start.

I agree, they look great, that blue is a somewhat unconventional DKOK which makes it even more awesome

The blue coats contrast really well with the mud effects. The bases have a lot of character too.

the method i used for the coats was:
-mordian blue base
-wash with asurmen blue
-start highlighting with mordian blue
-then 50% mix of ultramarine blue and bleached bone
-chaos black for the interior of the coat and cuffs, highlighted with charadon granite
-buttons with dwarf bronze

the backpacks and chest pack :

- bestial brown
-devlan mud wash
-highlight with bestial broun

leg wraps and the bedrolls
-khemri brown, washed in mud and highlighted with khemri brown

pants:
-scorched brown, washed in mud, highlighted with bestial brown

gas mask
-khemri brown with a mud wash and highlighted with khemri brown
-chaos black for the eye glass with a shinny varnish, rims of glass highlighted with mithril silver
-bolt-gun metal for the re-breather

helmet and shoulder pads:

- charadon granite
-wash in badab black
-highlight adeptus battlegrey and chaos black mix

guns :
bolt-gun metal, badab black wash, highlighted with mithril silver
snakebite leather for the stock
bestial brown for the shoulder straps

boots:
snakebite leather with heavy mud wash, snakebite leather highlight

so ya, that's about the method i used, my fine detail brush got a workout with these guys.

after seeing doubleT"s DKoK army and the shoulder straps he had made, I had to do the same, so credit for those should go to him.

They look great, the bases are especially well done and do a lot for a DKoK army. The blue coats reminds me a lot of the French soldiers in the beginning of WW1, before they got their late war uniforms.
