I'm just getting into WHFB fluff and I'm wondering if Sigmar is similar to Tiber Septim from the Elder Scrolls series; Also why does Sigmar look like Viking? That pic of him on the throne makes him look like Jarl as well

Also I'm planning to start a Conquistador themed Empire army and wondering if anybody could provide some inspiration/ideas for a background on such type of army(are there any countries that is essentially the Fantasy version of Spain/Portugal? Does the Empire send out conquistador like conquerers to gain new lands?)

One thing I've always wanted to make is a Conquistador esque army sent to conquer and "civilise" the barbaric tribes of the North

Now that you mention it. Yes sigmar is very much like Tiber septim. He united the petty tribes and became emperor. He then became a god

I wouldn't know much about the Oblivion thing, but Tilea is the warhammer Equivalent of Italy, and Estalia (a bunch of city states and hill tribes, I think. Its never been established) is basically Warhammer Spain. An old White dwarf Magazine circa the Lustria Campaign did show somebody who'd converted a small army of Estalian Conquistadors out of Pirazzo's Lost Legion, a warhammer Dogs of war unit. I would find a link for you, but I'm at school, so GW 's website is blocked right now :p

If you look in the Warhammer Fantasy section and click 'armies', there might be a 'Dogs of War' or 'Mercenaries' slot, but otherwise, look in the Warhammer 'collectors' area for the same.

Many and varied forces in progress according to waxing & waning whims.

I may never finish an army in my life.

Why not consider an army from the Nation of Tilea? It should match the description you want.

Technically it would be the other way around, but yes, Tiber Septim and Sigmar are VERY alike now I think about it.

He looks like a viking because he was around when men were in tribes and mud huts, so didn't wear much in the way of clothes. The fancy hammer (Ghal Marhaz (sp)) was a gift from the dwarves, hence why it looks almost out of place heh.

What about the civilising the savages of the north? Would the Empire/Estalia set out to do that? Would Estalia also follow whatever religion the Empire is following?

Estalia is very much it's own country and doesn't follow the policies or religions of the Empire.

Also, the Empire is not a colonizing country in any real sense. They have their land and they are for the most part happy with it. There is the odd border dispute, but nothing on the scale of American colonization from Spain and England.

It is also quite hard to try to be an Imperialist nation when you are constantly at war with a variety of enemies.

Occasionally, there are private expeditions to other parts of the world, and there are even a few colonies. But they are for the most part not overseen by the Imperial Government.

Most of these expeditions are looking for treasure.

indeed, they are for income, not really for expansion of the country itself.

Well... aside from the small detail that I'm not aware of any rumors of Sigmar showing up in disguise and providing indirect support for would-be heroes and other world saviors. iirc, the legionaire that you run into in Morrowind at the outpost just before running off to face the big bad drops some hints that he's really Tiber Septim.

So what religion do the people of Tilea or Estalia follow? Does Estalia have an Inquisition where they hunt down chaos cultists? Does Tilea have a vatican?

I belive they worship the Southern Gods, also called the Classical Gods.

They include Morr, Verena, Myrmidia, Shallya, Ranald, and Khaine

I believe so, too.

The only "Inquisition" I've ever seen mentioned is run by Solkanites, but the followers of the gods of Law are as distrusted and held in suspicion by Old Worlders as Chaos worshippers, despite Law worship being legal. As well, the whole gods of Law haven't been mentioned since WHFRP 1st edition went OOP, though the Mathias Thulmann trilogy has mentions of Solkanite Inquisitors.
