Oh look another Kickstarter thread! Aren't you all delighted?

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/brotherwise/boss-monster-the-dungeon-building-card-game

In all seriousness, I thought this one had the charm to win some of you over -- especially those of you who are nostalgic for or at least a fan of 1980s aesthetics. Boss Monster is a card game where you play the villain luring treasure-and-glory-seeking adventurers to their gruesome deaths.

Here's a neat article on the boss cards: http://bossmonstergame.wordpress.com/2012/10/12/boss-monster-takes-manhattan/
And another about dungeon building: http://bossmonstergame.wordpress.com/2012/10/15/boss-monster-101-rooms-dungeon-building/

This project is already funded to the second stretch goal of a higher quality print run. So at $20, you're basically pre-ordering the game. For me, that's a reasonable amount to satisfy my curiosity.

You are already there, in spirit.

Worried they'll take the money and run or you just waiting for a consumer review?

I know what you mean -- I have put a similar policy into place but of course immediately exempted this one because it's only $20 (including shipping).

Since I appear to have plenty of time, I might invest in this, it looks fun and I love the retro graphics style

I think I'll be in - if the KS budget will allow it, closer to the finish line.

Nice find, and thanks for posting the link.

One thing about this is, the stretch goals aren't too interesting. The second one, with the improved paper quality, is probably the best one IMO. I don't like the stretch goal of "we'll kickstart an expansion." So if we give you lots of money now you promise to ask for more of our money later? As far I can tell, this puppy is chugging along on the play tester package rather than an attempt to reach the $40k mark -- which they are already less than $4k away from with 26 days to go.

I think Ogre did a better job with that. The "we'll do other stuff too!" stretch goals didn't show up until very late iirc. That should really be planned out for after a game/thing what needs funding has been maxed out.

That said, I do look forward to the core game.

I agree with all of that, and I think a lot of it is because the game is 'only' $20, including shipping!

People want the game fast: the majority of backers are going in for $40 so as to playtest. As of this morning, the average contribution worked out to about $42.

So, just to toss out an update for this game. They managed to break the $40k mark, and so not one, but two expansions were announced:

We call the first expansion Tools of Hero-Kind, and we can't wait to tell you more about it. Think of ToHK as a "hard mode" for the game, a 25-card mini-expansion that equips Heroes with Items that make them more threatening and more unpredictable.

And:

The new expansion is a lot bigger. In fact, it's a full 150-card set that will be playable as a standalone game, as an addition to the current game, or as a library of cards that players can use to customize their own experience. The theme of the game keeps the Heroes we know and love, but it introduces a stronger dose of sci-fi influenced by classic games like Metroid, Crystalis, and the classic D&D adventure Expedition to the Barrier Peaks. We call it... Crash Landing. And as you can tell by the kobolds, the logo is still under construction.

With only 5 days of funding left I just thought I might give this an obligatory bump!

The Kickstarter is looking damn promising, plenty of exclusive goodies announced, but the new coolness is that the $160,000 stretch goal Brotherwise has announced that anyone at the 'Extra Life' pledge level will get a full version of the expansion 'Tools of Hero Kind' not just a prototype copy. (You'll still get an advance copy, but it will be print-and-play rather than physical).

Personally I'm quite happy to tack on a little extra to get a full release version of the expansion for cheaper than retail

OK so the kickstarter has smashed $160,000 stretch goal, and with 48 hours left on the clock I'm giving this a bump just so nobody misses out on a pretty sweet deal, A $40 pledge (~£36) gets you the base game, a full copy of the first expansion on release, plus a load of extra bonus cards that are exclusive to the campaign!

I can't believe how absurdly and consistently well this campaign has done! It will likely break 200K... insane
