I've always heard possessed are a waste of time..... since possessed make up 1/5 of the contents of the box..... are there extra parts in the box, any room for customization?

There's always room for customization and conversions with box sets and if you have spare bits from your other sets save them then use them for future conversions and possessed are only good if you know how to use them properly as with all things.

If you don't like possessed, you could always use the bits together with the CSM kit to make ultra mutated marines.

The regular CSM set has enough arms to give 10 marines pistol/chainsword or give them all bolters. If you just mix between all the sets you can easily just have 15 marines with various mixes.

If you add up the battleforce you are basically getting the possessed for free anyway. As Greyhamster and Far Seer noted, they are really just bits on a chaos marine anyway so you are really getting 15 chaos marines with customizations. A friend of mine uses the possessed bits to kit his aspiring champions and they look great.

The new battleforce is nowhere near as good as the old one. I'd honestly rather have 15 marines, 8 berserkers, 5 possessed, and a rhino over 10 marines, 5 possessed, 3 bikes, and a rhino.

If you don't like possessed squads, their bitz go well with berserkers.

You can just have a posessed arm represent a CCW on a marine. So you end up with 15 CSM that have some mutations.

Well I'm looking at the new codex now, and possessed don't seem as bad as they used to be. They compliment the berzerkers perfectly.better than in other editions.

Thats the impression I'm getting. Go check out some unit reviews for the new codex. I'm not a chaos player, but I understand the possessed are better then they were in the old codex. I've also heard that Bezerkers have been somewhat nerfed.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

I'm not getting the Battleforce since I don't particularly like Possessed or Rhinos and I don't plan on using Bikes; Berzerkers don't have two Attacks anymore, true, Rage sort of but not really makes up for that, but a bigger thing to consider is that they're cheap for WS5 Furious Charge CC Marines and they have access to the Icon of Wrath, which changes their average charge distance from about a 40% chance of getting above 7" to a 70% chance of getting above 7", which is huge.
