Subject: Iron Guts vs. Ogres for a tournament?

Hello all,
I was just wondering if anyone has an opinion on Ogres vs. Iron Guts in a tournament environment?
I usually use a single unit of Iron Guts in 2000 point games but since we are playing 2500, I thought this might change the dynamic, as a note I usually field 2 units of Man Eaters (1 Sniper/Poison, 1 Scout/Swift Stride) and a unit of Mournfang Cavalry so I have plenty of beat sticks.
10 x Ogres
-Iron Fists
-Full Command
-270 points more needed for core requirements. (710 points if I take 2 of them?)
10 x Iron Guts
-Banner of Discipline
-Full Command
-145 points more needed for core requirements. (Still taking 8 Ogres with Banner, Musician. 756)

I think most people figure hey at I2 I'm hitting last anyway might as well be hitting at S6 and they can take a magic banner. If you are facing against something that I2 can beat like Saurus or great weapon non high elves then Iron Fist Ogres maybe a better bet. But all ogres are beat sticks and with the right buffs they are even better personally I would do a big ole Iron Gut unit and if you need more core take IF Ogres or add more to that Iron Gut unit.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Yeah, it's kind of funny but your strategy as ogre probably changes most when you're fighting ogres. Because everything good you have they have. I think ironfist ogres nudge out iron guts on cost. Not by an incredible amount cuz it's still no armor and parry save vs. 1 armor and bonus to wound. But it's also ASF and most importantly, a lot more points per unit.
Mirror matches are always kinda weird. It might be the only time in the history of ever you could take Bragg the Guttsman. But mostly I just think heroes would hide from him.

I run a mix. Ironguts are better at killing:
-Big Monsters
-Cavalry
-High-T buffed units.
Ogres are better vs:
-High-S buffed units
-Hordes
This is because ogres are slightly cheaper, and get a parry save, making them better at attrition, and more accepting of losses, while Ironguts are more killy, as long as they get to swing.

IGs arn't much more killier against Str3 T3 enemies then Bulls are. Bulls also gind better as they have more wounds and are more durable per point.
IGs are only better against high T and good armor save opponents.

I think IGs fight Mournfangs (or any super armor) better, however. S6 punches through 3 armor saves in addition to trying to wound.

Yes, but the loss in durability vs most opponents is not worth the extra damage output.
Most models have a 5+ armor. Bulls already reduce that to a 6+.
Wounding on 2s instead of 3s and no save vs a 6+ save are not worth having way less wounds and a poorer save. When fighting weak opponents, or even Str4 opponents.
its only better when you hit T5 or saves of 3+ or better.

I run 8 Iron Guts (4 wide) and 12 Bulls (4 deep).
I drop ogres out of the units to make room for characters. With 3 characters, I'd go 7 Ironguts + character and 10 bulls + 2 characters.
It works really well. Iron guts can take a charge and beat things down. Bulls can strip steadfast and does high strength impact hits.
But when in doubt, take more gnoblars.

Also, I wouldn't bother with a champion in either unit unless you plan on joining a character you don't want in a challenge. The single extra attack isn't worth the points.
