hope this is the right place, but I was wondering what everyone thought with the new CSM what would be better.
Defiler - 3x fists, havoc launcher - 200
or
forgefiend - 2x hades autocannons, 1x ectoplasma cannon/3x ectoplasma cannon - 200
now the way I see it, defiler has less guns (and the battle cannon makes havoc BS1 right?) but is tougher with 4HP and better in melee with 3 fists, but forgefiend is much better in shooting (albeit closer range, especially with plasma) and is a little weaker. thoughts? (also IMHO deffy is much cooler looking but forgefiend I can magnetize it or have cool bitz left over for conversions)
thoughts?

I like the BOG standard Forgefiend. 8x S8 shots isn't bad for 175 points. Pinning is just a nice bonus.

Forgefiend any day, that amount of shots for the amount of pints is a bargain.

A vehicle that fires an Ordnance weapon can only make Snap Shots with its other weapons that turn, so you can't fire Havoc launcher at all after using battle canon.
On the main topic, I have yet to decide which one works better for me... needs more testing

Sadly I think the Forgefiend is now more worth it than the Defiler if you want a good fire support.
Those 8 S8 shots + that S8 blast is just too good and it's a lot more reliable than a large blast S8 shot.
Also the Maulerfiend is the way to go if you want a good tank hunter.
The Defiler now is an expensive walker who's good at killing MEQs and destroy vehicules with his dread power fists. It's a waste to put it in a corner and shoot with the battlecannon since its a walker fully upgraded for CC.
I also believe that frome a walker point of view, 2 Helbrutes are worth more than a single Defiler...
So yeah the Forgefiend is better than the Defiler for the points.

3 power fists on the defiler? Sounds like a bit of a points dump to evade destroyed weapons...

Seems like people here are plugging the hades + ectoplasma head forgefiend. Any thoughts on the triple-ectoplasma fiend? I've personally gotten pretty good performance out of it, but that may be mostly due to the fact that one of my regular opponents likes GK terminator spam.

Wolf heathen - I accept your challenge, but only on my terms! 250% points for me!
You - Ha! You've activated my trap card! Allied army! Come forth to assist!
Friend - Sup
Wolf Heathen - An equal point match?! This is not acceptable! Tau friend! Form up on me!
And then some guy throws a manta at the table and promptly breaks it in half sending figures and terrain everywhere. |

Ah, codex is not beside me ATM... and with everyone's paranoia about flyers and overwatch, I would think dropping the reaper would be a bad thing?

Doesn't truly matter, the Forgefiend is the better choice

I think a hadesfiend is a better all comers choice because it can be a viable AA threat and flyers will only become more common.

What's in the rest of my army?
That's pretty damn important since these two units have completely different uses.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I like the Defiler better. It's more versatile on the tabletop.
