I'm not that familiar with the Holofoil cards, I looked at them once, saw that they were pretty but hard to read then put them back in the box. I might have to give them another glance if there are extra events.

There is at least one, it might be bake sale... idk...

will look tonight

Okay, sorry for the delay, I managed to get my hands on some anime themed card sleeves. While not as provocative as the cards themselves, I did get a cute little anime martial arts fighter girl...

I played Tentacle Bento last night without most of the foil promo cards, and it made the game a whole lot less infuriating without the foil All-Stars fething up my game lol.

There are 4 event cards in a normal game of Tentacle Bento, but there are also 2 foil promo events, "Milk & Cookies" and "Bake Sale" This increases the chances of getting 4 events without playing through the entire deck, which can help speed up play a bit, and make the game not take the 60 minutes that is says on the box (because let's be honest, not everyone can spend 60 minutes staring at anime girls ).

If you want to include some of the foil promo cards but don't want the extra shenanigans of the all-stars and extra characters, there are 10 regular girls that are foil promos. I took them out too, simply for ease play.

The game went much smoother, and was a better experience in my opinion. I would suggest adding the foil promo cards in when you're in "full party" mode of 6 players. Even with 4 people last night, it still worked well without the extra cards.

Notes:
1) Get card sleeves like has been discussed
2) Keep any promo event cards in the deck to speed up play.
3) Take a shower after this, either cold or hot depending on how you feel.

Did you add in the house rule about not having to discard a card at the end of your turn if you only have one card in your hand?

I'm curious because I tried it but I'm not sure I actually like it. It changes the game consdierably.

I did not lol, I had completely forgotten about it. How much does the game change?

It takes out alot of the hand management thats needed in this game. Whether thats a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen. Hopefully I'm going to get another play in on Tuesday with a different group and I'll see how it goes from there.

I think for newer players that just try to capture as much as possible, it might be useful. But your more advanced players will probably not want/need that rule.

I too was happy to find this thread, nice work Shar!

Got my copy the day it hit retail, and it proudly sits on my girlfriend's coffee table, distracting all passersby ... who usually assume it's a VHS tape

We haven't played too many games, just a few with three players, which despite being an awkward number that the game was likely not designed for - given the bit about using a larger hand for two players - often led to an apparently common problem ...
Panic wrote:It loses my fifth love tentacle because I thought there should be a better way out of the no card rut I found my self in twice, the option to skip a turn to draw three cards or something like that.
This. Running low on cards was bad, but running out of cards was brutal and led to some nasty stagnation. Though we kept pushing along, we kind of all decided that even with the mechanisms in the game relating to the Field, there needs to be some house rule to get around this, particularly the auto-discard deal.
Alfndrate wrote:House Rule:
Should a player ever begin a turn with no cards in their hand, they may take their turn as normal, but they do not have to discard it at the end of their turn.
We figured the same, as the most simple house rule that let the game's management of scarcity thing continue. We had thought of other more drastic options, like no discarding until you had two, three or even four cards in your hand, but didn't know if we should mess with stuff until we recruited another player ...

Anyway this thread's existence makes me happy, as does Bento's as well

There's quite a few cards allowing a lot of shenanigans with the other players' cards / girls and having only one opponent seems less fun. So far all my 1vs1 games ended in a landslide win for one or the other player. Can't wait to try a 4way game. No honour among tentacle monsters!

We used a "draw 5 cards next turn if you have 1 or less cards in hand either from the school or field pile (but not both)" house rule. Also while allowing room for tactics I believe the luck based events and all-star girls are in alignment with the atmosphere the game is trying to portrait. We laughed our asses off when Candi & Cola (character version) came out 3 times in a single game, and in both games the Cultural Festival proved to be a devastating event

PS : Get sleeves for them. SO good.

I've been playing this game for the past few weeks, and I have to say, this game makes me rage so hard atm... I've yet to win a game out of the dozen or so games I've played, and I usually end the game with no cards in my hand, as it had been for the past 10 turns or so, I had forgotten the exact wording of my house rule, and as such neglected to include the "in any turn in which you start your hand with 0 cards" lol. So when trying out that house rule, We had the issue where people would capture down to their last card, and then not discard it... which meant that I was basically the only one contributing to the Field Pile.

Another thing that I've noticed is that you can play your hand smart, working hard to keep a few choice cards in your hand, and then get completely and utterly screwed by the Cultural Festival. So much so that I drew the Bake Sale (the one that lets you draw three cards), completed 2 captures in my hand that I couldn't play because you must finish out the events, Cultural Festival gets drawn by the next person, and I had her my hand, and get a mere two cards, because you have to finish off the most recent event card before you move on to the next one. So while I have the foil event cards in the deck, I've taken out Cultural Festival until I get what I consider to be a balanced version of this game.

My game currently consists of:
All the Normal Cards in the Deck minus Cultural Festival(108?)
2 Foil Events
And the Following House Rule:
Should a player ever begin a turn with no cards in their hand, they may take their turn as normal, but they do not have to discard it at the end of their turn.

This game is hard to like, but it's so damn popular amongst my friends that I'm stuck playing it since I'm the only one that owns it...

Boss Salvage, where did you manage to buy your copy? I have the Fan Funded Version, and my friends can't get their hands on the game.

The FLGS - Zombie Planet in Albany, NY - got a handful in the first week, then a double handful in the second. Not sure how stock stands this week but the owner is very good at getting what he wants from suppliers

Those models are fething ugly. I couldn't care less about the game, but those models are just... ugh. The sculptor could at least be tasteful with his softcore porn.

I think that's the point, the models are themed around stereotypes of Japanese Hentai so it's expected the models would be tasteless considering the subject matter, it's like complaining about violence in a action movie or a comedy having jokes it's kind of the point of it
