Subject: Tentacle Bento - Soda Pop - Lovers gonna Love
So I recently received my package from Soda Pop I've waited long and patiently It's finally here!!
Tentacle Bento
This is a fun game and in my eyes causes no harm other than maybe a hurt stomach of laughing!
So I love my Japanese Tentacle art and my innuendos. I myself love dressing up, and school girls
are one of the outfits I love to wear. So all in all this was just a must have.
I opened to box and started reading the cards, most of the really funny other very edgy and cunning
The game is differently design as I first anticipated.
Beware, Invasion Imminent!
Tentacle Bento is a fast and furious card game set on the campus of the elite, Takoashi University.
Take on the roll of a squiggly alien desguised as a new student, doing what aliens do best, collecting pretty school girls!
(This is Tokyo after all) The alien who captures the most students before the end of the school year, wins!
This to me sounded fairly simple and easy and made me think it was a quick phased quickly finished game.
Reading the rules further it gets a bit more complicated and the box says it takes about an hour to play.
I haven't played it yet so I can verify this, but I'm sure it's an accurate time range. I will post more about
it once I had my first game.
There are four different 'Suits' Cute, Smart, Sexy and Sporty. I initially anticipated that you would have to collect
one of each to make a good capture, but they've made the rules so that one of each is a 'Sloppy capture'.
The thing you are persuing is making a capture with one of each out of one 'Suit' for example, my girl, my capture and
my location could all be 'Smart' that means it's a 'Noble Capture' Thus more points. The more girls from the same suit in the
capture the better. There are some special characters though and they have special rules. One of them is that the character has
to be the only girl in the capture.
Up until now it sounded fun but still a bit like a normal card game if you know what I mean.
What makes it interesting in my opinion is that most of the card create the scenario that you can
steal the cards form others, having to swap your cards to the person next to you or for example
having to skip a turn.
So instead of just doing a dull sort of collecting and once you made a capture that's it, it actually becomes
more competitive not knowing whether you might keep your captures or the cards that you are currently holding in your hand.
There are 108 cards; 44 students, 28 captures, 28 locations, 4 events, 3 characters, 1 direction of Play card.
That is in the original box. I did get some shineys as well (as you might be able to see on my poorly photographed picture, sorry about that)
They also contain event cards and character cards ect.
Also got two cool new mini's to paint (which of course will be updated in the posts).
Fancy art poster.
American size Medium which I can actually swim some laps in it, so this my new pyjama
I think something that's also worth mentioning is that the special character girls on the cards are some of the actual 'Soda Pop Girls'
as a company to involve you employees on that level is really cool (IMO)
http://girls.sodapopminiatures.com/content/meet-girls
So that's it so far.
Soon there will be a game update and I will provide pictures and a review.
I will paint and post the results of the miniatures.
I would love to get opinion of others who have also purchased/played it.

Thanks for posting these pics' Sharazad. I am anxiously awaiting a copy from Soda Pop -- but still haven't received any shipping notification. How is the card quality? IIRC, Soda Pop's Super Dungeon Explore had some pretty flimsy ones.
I don't remember anyone saying the cards would make people commit rape, just some people felt that it makes light of being raped. It is certainly easier to argue against the former than the latter so I could understand why people would choose to pretend that was the issue.

I am pleased with the quality. The Shiny cards are a bit dark maybe, but that's just trying to complain I guess. There where no chips, they're quite big and quality print.
Only thing that slightly annoys me is that, as soon as you take the wrapping of the box and the cards, you'll find the cards being slightly to much for the box when you try and
put them back. So now I need to find a new box to put them in, but had to do that anyway as my shiny cards came separately. Nothing wrong with making a customized box I suppose.
With Super Dungeon Explorer it was a bit frustrating that most of them don't quite fit. I can't be bothered with green stuffing all the gaps, it will have to do with what it is.

There where some journalists who blew the story even more than others. I guess they wanted their story to be read.
But as they say, there is no such thing as bad publicity. I did google a lot of what people where saying about it, don't even know
why.
I guess I did agree most with some people who said it was unfortunate that, that was the game being kicked off kickstarter as there where a lot of
other games with far more sexual content. The people who wanted it off really did their best giving it as much 'mud' as they could (sorry couldn't think of a better word than mud hahaha)
I wasn't going to pledge until Kickstarter threw them off the site - so I pledged enough for a game out of solidarity's sake.
It's funny enough. I could see where it would cross the line into creepy for a lot of people, but I don't think it's worth making as much a fuss over as some people did.

I notice that you didn't post links to people saying that the game would be a direct cause of rape. People didn't say "this game will make you rape people", as was your claim. There is a big difference between thinking something is making light of rape, and thinking it causes rape. In all fairness I was referring more to the discussion Dakka had when the imbroglio was in full swing.
I'm not sure why the word 'mud' here is so funny. It seems a stretch to make it into a double entendre, or euphemism. The context is barely there.

I agree, which is why I thought it was odd that it was brought back up in the first place, but there it is, the first real paragraph of the OP. Still, I don't think it is right to accuse people of something they didn't do. I'm not arguing either for or against the game, or whether Kickstarter should have dropped it or not, just that I don't think it is fair to, essentially, lie about the issues raised.

Right, although I wouldn't necessarily jump to attributing bad faith here. One lesson I learned from that thread is how easily the arguments involved were misunderstood and misinterpreted. Suffice it to say here, to reiterate here really, the major controversy with the game is whether or not it fits into the conception of pop culture as tacitly excusing rape.

I didn't link anything because I seriously could not be bothered finding websites I checked months ago. It was not said here.
So yeah it's in my head a fact of memory but not an actual fact But I can always remove it from the op if that would make people feel better. My point was to mention the controversial side, as someone would have done because I'm all lovydobby about it (I assume).
Just stating there was controversiality, than stated my opinion, and continue stating my opinion. But yeah not said it to start the same discussion again, merely acknowledging that there was and that it was wild.
On another note.
Ill soon post a 'bat rep' haven't found anyone with time yet who was able to play.
Those models are fething ugly. I couldn't care less about the game, but those models are just... ugh. The sculptor could at least be tasteful with his softcore porn.

I like them. Mellsia, I agree with you on alot of things. About misogyny and perception of women in popular culture. But you are starting to sound like one of those "Offended by everything" activists. These models are specifically designed to portray women that are unattainable by any human beings, they are not real. This is very different from things such as beer Advertisements.

If I was "offended" *, it would have been because the models are tasteless and stupid. I'm not offended, but they're still tasteless and stupid. I never once mentioned objectification anyway-- frankly, I've seen porn that was in better taste than these models, and porn is all about objectification.
You may like them, but that does not obligate me to.
*(Which is not an accurate term, but you use it in order to try to insult me. I am not offended, I just don't like the models. Try to stay on topic instead of talking about me.)

It is. The miniatures are just collectible (like all of Soda Pops stuff until fairly recently) and I think were originally bonuses for higher Kickstarter pledge tiers.
Piston Honda wrote: Miniatures are nicely sculpted display miniatures, which is what they seem to be intended to be.
I found Soda Pop's minis to be nicely sculpted but don't fit in a war game.
No they don't fit war gaming at all, but I am very much looking forward to painting them. I usually like using bright
colours, but with these mini's I would love to try out some soft tones.
I will probably start painting them this week, might pick up some new colours on Saturday or so.
