Already bored of my Ogres after 20ish games. With some of the cool new WOC releases was thinking to strip the paint off of them and make them Chaos Ogres. I bought the Codex last week and I have like ZERO experience with this army. The few times I faced them I know Tzneetch blocks of dudes are hardcore, hell cannons are funny and Infernal Gateway can apparently suck up entire groups of dudes. I have like 30 Bulls, 2 Cannons a 8 mournfang that I think I can convert to chaos.

I looked at Chaos Ogres...no impact hits and 3 points more with no parry. Was thinking about just using 12 of my Ogres and going

4x3 with extra CC weapon and Mark of Khorne (5 attacks each right?)
making my 2 iron blasters all evil and stuff and making them hell cannons
Making my mournfang skullcrushers...even though it looks like a downgrade.(name escapes me).

Beyond that, I need help. I know the Ogres aren't as good as trolls...I own Ogres and would like to convert as much as I can on the cheap.

Help me build a list guys. Do I need a lvl 4 Tzneetch sorcerer like my buddies say? on a disc? I need blocks of warriors with mark of Tzneetch? What about the new models? Festus looks AWESOME and kind of ogreish...but if I but him with ogres his base is too small and I get no "look out sirs", right? Somebody who is a WOC expert....school me and build me a 1750/2000/2400 point list based on what I have and help me figure things out.

Get the codex and have a good read of it, I'd say its entirely possible, go for a monstrous horde with Throgg. I use Minotaurs for trolls as i love the models and the river trolls i like but they just don't look right to me as chaos trolls.
You definately need a decent magic phase tho. get a sorceror on a disc they're competetive and fun.

Honestly, you're better off trading than converting. It would be a ton of work to convert ogres off the sprue into chaos. It would be twice as much work to convert built ogres into chaos.

I'd say that Ogres are the worst unit in the chaos book, but that would be forsaken.

yeah, the army book tells me that Chaos Ogres are garbage...5 more points, no parry and no impact hits. My friend who's played fantasy for like 10 more years then I have helped me make a list today. It had throgg and me converting my Ogres into trolls. Most aren't painted...all are build though. Wonder how I'd pry those heads off and need to find some troll heads I guess.

How do you deal with trolls being Initiative 1 vs. Magic like purple son and dwellers below (that goes off initiative too I think)?

yeah, I just think Nurgle Ogres would look cool I guess...I'll need to make them into trolls I suppose. Ive looked at a ton of online sites, can't find troll heads anywhere...that's the suck

Look for bits from the Vampire Vargeists. Those bat like heads look a bit troll like.

WoC Ogres most definitely aren't garbage. It costs 2 pts for an ironfist and then it's 35 pts vs. 32. Same armor and no parry save for WoC. Further, WoC can get Chaos Armor(!), add GW, and can get marks. If you got a TZ mark on a large enough unit, they are almost exactly identical to bulls. On top of that, they can use the synergy of the WoC army, namely a whole different list of spells and heroes Chaos Shrines and other weirdness. If there's a WoC rewrite, I think Ogres will be nerfed or maybe even removed entirely. Trolls are far more reasonable, i.e., super expensive, for being a unit they probably shouldn't have to begin with. O&G trolls are about 33% cheaper than WoC, but Ogres are about 10% more expensive than OK. That's not a huge amount.

Chaos Ogres don't have to look any different. I mean they got the exact same stats. So if they have an extra butt or something, it doesn't change their Str or # of attacks.

Forgeworld has some chaos trolls and they look super cool. Except for their guts are spilling on the ground and it kinda looks like he's pooping. They're just a bit too ugly.

BUT I have to say if you don't like Ogres, making WoC ogres or trolls isn't going to make you like them a lot more. They're pretty similar. You might see if someone wants to trade.

As for how people deal with purple sun with trolls, not many people have lotsa trolls. I've never heard of a nose-star. Probably the most you see are 6 in a unit and that's harder to hit. It also spreads you out vs. flaming. And while your chance of stupidity is the same on 1 unit or 4, there's something really scary about failing stupidity on 75% of your army and basically standing there an entire turn.

I like O&G trolls more, because they are way cheaper, you can back them up with war machines, and you can stick a dinky little hero in each unit to give them LD and he practically costs as much as a troll. You still have to take Core though.
