What's the best way to use Cassius? With his T6 doing I charge him into squads to blog them down or sit him with my TH terms? Anything else i could with him?

The problem with Cassius is if you out him in a squad that gets shot he uses majority toughness. So he's really T4, however where his T6 shines is in challenges and tying up that big bad dude while he confers rerolls on the charge to his squad. However since crozius are ap4 now it's not great.

Rerolls for terminators could be great though I'd bet.

Stick him in a LR full of terminators.

He doesn't have a jump pack, so his only real option is to drive/run somewhere. We only have one assault vehicle, so that makes an easy choice. And if you are fielding a LR, might as well fill it full of terminators.

From a fluff perspective, sticking him in with a squad of sternguard would fit well. He is the guy who organized the tyrannic war veteran squads, which are best represented with sternguard these days.

How does his toughness shine in a challenge, he is still part of the unit, So his toughness will only shine when the squad is down to 2 models him and someone else.

Place him in a land raider with 5 TH/SS and maybe a libby or captain. Cassius becomes the de-facto challenge accepter, and then if need be the TH/SS sarge or the libby/captain can heroic intervention later.

Now that I'm looking through everything again. I'm not so sure I'm right, I just checked the FAQ's and BRB. And the only argument I can come up with is in the challenge section on page 64 in the "fighting a challenge" paragraph it states that "for the duration of the challenge these 2 models are considered to be in base contact 'only with each other'". And that since you can't even allocate wounds to anyone else outside of the challenge, or from the outside in. By default you have to use his toughness.

However where I think you may on to something nowhere at all does it say you don't use majority toughness and WS. It only states that when striking back you use your own WS. And since 40k is a permissive rule set it would tell us that's cool.

Nothing in the rules tells you to the challenger is seperate from the unit hes joined to so from what I have checked Cassius will be treated as the majority of his unit when people roll to wound. And base to base does not affect the toughness value of cassius.

That's more or less what I just said... But yah I'm starting to lean that way. Meaning these characters that got higher toughness instead of a better invuln and EW are useless in this edition.

With challengers as its a separate combat, I always go by the IC stats and no one in my local meta has said anything about that.

Yah I've been using the completely separate stats in challenges since 6th dropped. And until this thread I didn't have a single doubt that's how it was. I only play casual game and I haven't played any tournaments but still. I feel like the majority Toughness is correct as your still part of the unit and all that. But I will continue to play it as separate until someone has a problem or I run into Waac at a tournament.
