Just curious what the difference between these two rulebooks is (besides price and lack of fluff in DV)... Was considering buying a DV rulebook off of ebay but I don't want to waste my time if rules-wise it's missing something essential.

Help me out dakka! DV rulebook, waste of $ or good alternative for those of us already well versed in the fluff?

Good alternative.

Only difference is the DV rulebook is small and softcover. Rules-wise, it's got everything the bigger rulebook's got. It's even in colour!

It's missing the stat sheets for the armies though isn't it? I couldn't find them anyway. And since the values for things have changed (and vehicles have HPs), they take precedence over the Codex, so you need them.

It has all the stats from the codexes in it.

It is by far the better book for anyone that has already been immersed in the fluff or is just a player.

The main rulebook is too damn big to be much use while playing the little one is invaluable to newbs, infrequent players and people like me who can't remember a damn thing from one day to the next (old people ).

Cool, I must have just missed it then.

I agree. Plus about 1/3rd of the big book is a hobby guide; photos of stuff you can buy, how to glue and paint your figures, that sort of thing. Useful if you've just got into the hobby, but a waste of paper for everyone else.

The nice thing about the 6th edition smaller rule book is that it has the same page numbering as the big rule book. I believe that this was not the case with the 5th edition mini rulebook.

I out with in both 40k and WHFB.

How are you well versed in the fluff when it always changes?

The 5th ed book had the same pages for the big and small versions as well.

from what I gathered its just the rule section of the big one.
You get all you need rulewise, without the mega ton of artworl, the hardback, and the 200 pages of storyline and fluff.
