Ok, so I'm trying to tweek the way I play Malifaux.

Due to multiple systems and never really enough time I tend to turn up, bodge together a crew, slap out some scenery on a 4x4, bypass all the scenerio/game building flips, quickly pick schemes and strategies and just hope that the game goes well enough for me to just enjoy it rather than actually win or even achieve any of my goals!

But recently it's become a little steadier in my world and I'm now looking to maximise my hobby time. I have time and space to build new scenery/boards and get into the world of Malifaux that little bit deeper!

So basically, what size board do you guys play on? Most other games suit at least a 4x4 but I have read/seen games of Mali played on 3x3 and smaller!

Does the game benefit from a smaller board or am I best to stick with 4x4?

Thoughts?

Malifaux is played on a 3x3 board, that is what Wyrd uses for their boards in tournaments, etc...

If you're playing a Brawl (2 masters, minimum of 35 soulstones) you might be able to get away with a 4x4, but the game is designed for 3x3.

If you play on a 4x4, you're adding an extra turn of people spending their action points on just movement.

I play on a 4x4 board, however I just increase both players deployment zone by 6 inches.

It's a little wide on, but we normally make the side six inches dense with terrain so it kind of forces everyone from the edges

Or tape off a 3x3 section inside the 4x4 board?

That's what we do at my flgs where I demo... I have a 6x4 foot table, so I just come in 3 feet from the edge of the table, and then 6 inches in on each side... Works great, and gives you plenty of space for stat cards, etc...

Yeah, we just use something to mark the corners (walls, dice, empty bases, etc-- something that won't be mistaken for something to pick up)

I go for just over 3 x 3 - the only reason being that my scenic board is just over 3 x 3, and it's by far the one I like to use!
