Utilizing Careful Highlighting
|
What strategies work, especially interested on ideas for psychic buff shennigans.
As a marine player im keen to hear marine strategies, ie snipers and sternguard hellfire, however other army strategies are welcome as im sure marines are not the only players worried about this wrecking ball.
If any nid players could chime in that would also be welcome.
Edit2 their psychic buff, ie higher toughness

Missiles and lascannons. Both ignore his armor save (no invul) and both are high enough STR that you'll be able to put wounds on him. If he has 1 guard you'll have to do 6-7 wounds. You should have at least 2 turns to pour fire into him before he's in CC.
That or tarpit him with a unit of 10 TH/SS termies. Or sacrifice a bunch of characters in challenges. Snipers would work but it might not be a great idea in a TAC list.

As a Marine player there isnt much as far a psychic powers thats gonna make taking the swarmlord down any easier. He is in name and rule a psychic monstrosity. Range is the only way to take him down in relative safety. If you are looking to take down the SL with psychic powers as an in your face kind of thing. i would suggest something like space wolves jotww

This is what im thinking of.
Autowounding T9 seems only bet, ie hellfire via sternguard.
Not keen on planning to get screwed.. Automatically Appended Next Post: My thinking is up to here:
If he with 2 guards, i need those reliably gone by end turn 1.
That leaves me turn 2 to really try and put wounds on him.
Then even if he survives and commences tearing great holes in my line, i should have a good chance of finishing him in turn 3.

swarmlord only has 5 attacks. you are best served to tarpit and speed bump him if you cant put him down. No sense in shooting an impossibly durable unit if there are softer targets. just my .02$

Sternguard with combi meltas and then follow up with hellfire amunition. If this dose not kill him lay down more fire on him Devestators armed with Las cannons. Works well for me

You want him to have 2 guards. That means Iron Arm does nothing for his survivability - you'll be wounding against T6 not T7+.

If you're willing to take allied SW a rune priest can really mess his day up by nullifying 50% of the powers he uses. In a marine list taking an extra (but cheaper and better) tactical squad and a 100pt psyker isn't too much of a points investment considering what you're getting.

Faced him and a tervi in a 750pts game, ouch. went through a small squad of DC and chappie quite quickly, killed him with dread autocannons in one game and raped him with kraks in another, mate doesnt use BRB powers which I keep telling him to do

my necrons fought a nid army earlier today. he brang a SL along and my overlord just aced him. MSS for the win  not to mention the s7 warscythe, 3+ invul and if i need to, a a tesseract.

I'll sum up how to beat Tyranids with any Marine codex:
Spam Missiles. Lots of Missiles.
Frag Missiles for the small ones, Krak for the larger. They all die.

Thinking is with guards, high st AP3 weight of fire ie kraks, with iron arm and no guards, poisoned weapons, lascannons, wolf allies, vindicators.
