So I put a lot of magnet's on my models. Some things will not work with a magnet such as grisly trophy and chain snares for my dark eldar army.

Lets say I join a tournament and I dont want them to be included in the army stats but I dont want to remove them from the model either. Would it be okay if I just wrap the parts I dont want included in artist tape to cover them up? It seems like it would be okay since they wont be seen but I wanted to know what you guys thought.

Thanks

While yes WYSIWYG is supposed to be important most, and by most I mean all, the players I've played and every tournament I've ever gone to have been looser on upgrades like those. For example never seen someone get grilled that they didn't have frag and krak modeled on their marines, nor have a single person given my friend flak for having red painted orks, but not taking red paint.

Generally I see it as if you take upgrades they should always be modeled on, standard issue doesn't need to be, but it is nice, extra bits are fine as long as its not this meltagun on his back actually isn't there. I guarantee you that if you were playing at our store that no one would even notice the trophy or snares unless you pointed them out.

Nor should they, basic equipment isn't needed to be WYSIWIG, as there is no way to not have it.

The best thing to do is just make sure it's consistent. If all of your stuff has a certain upgrade modelled but you don't want it on any of them, then people won't be annoyed. If you have 3 Raiders with every option modelled but each has its own different selection actually paid for, then people will get annoyed.

I rarely get annoyed over upgrades other than guns being modelled because I never know what the upgrade parts on different sprues actually look like aside from Imperial vehicle upgrades, because those are relatively straight forward (searchlight is a searchlight, dozer blade is a bull dozer scoop, etc).

That said, you will come across the odd grognard who won't accept anything aside from WYSIWIG. Ignore them, call one of the tournament staff over if needed.
