You going to game empire Saturday? The tournament will be at 1750 which is the same points level as BAO, no FW allowed though so it won't help you prepare that way.

Still not sure if I should play Fantesy or 40k.
Either way I am hoping to have a display board this year.
Ogres would be easy because the army is completely painted and based. Although I am getting some AWSOME flame bases for my Purifiers.
Or maybe we will see if I can get my Menoth painted by then.

Trying to finish my Red Hunters for BAO, just not finding a Black Legion setup that I like out of the new book unfortunately. Hoping to rock a GK/BA army or possibly a Chaos/Daemons army if there is a new book for Daemons prior to the event. Really looking forward to BAO as a first time attendee. Are there no other events in January or February out West here then?

There are quite a few events on the West Coast. Although the BAO is one of the larger ones. Quake City Rumble is a nice casual tournament from what I hear.
I think there is an event is Sacramento every year, not sure of the name.

QCR is a really popular Fantasy tournament, and their is a big series of tournaments in Sacramento at Great Escape Games. They have 2 series a year, IIRC.

It will be interesting to see what happens at the Bay Area Open.
Either:
#1. Nothing changes and you will see a wide variety of armies with just a few Forge World pieces here and there.
Or
#2. Everyone will bring Imperial Guard since they have the best forge world units, and everyone will be using saber defense platforms.
If it is #2 Reese will have created what he fears the most, and made an event where everyone takes one army because it is so good. (He did not like Adepticon last year because of the number of grey knight armies in attendance)

I vote #1.
Saber defense platforms won't really affect the outcome all that much, because the best lists will be hybrid lists with mainly a ground force and a few air support.

Saber defense platforms not only do well against flyers, but can kill everything else and are very, very hard to kill. So it does not matter if you have a hybrid list or not, because they are still really good.
Really, if IG was really worried about flyers they would just take vendettas and some hydra flak tanks, but sabers kill everything.

If people are concerned about Saber Platforms, plan for it. They are quite good, but not overpowering, IMO. A lot of lists won't fear them.
We shall see. So far, in our events, FW has been pretty underwhelming, to be honest.

Fairly cheap lascannon platform; uses the Artillery rules, and has Skyfire & Interceptor. Combine with an Aegis defense line & "go to ground" for a T7 unit with 2+ cover, and use "Get back in the fight" to stand up & shoot next turn.

It is a small gunplatform that houses a TL-lascannon. It is Artillery and is basically a heavy weapon team.
Due to the Artillery rules, it gives the squad its Toughness of 7.
And it only has a 36" range.
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/i/Imperial_Guard_Rapier.pdf
Space Marines also have a Rapier platform for slightly more.
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/s/Space_Marine_Rapier.pdf
I am not seeing that it has Skyfire or Interceptor.
