Subject: Black Templars with Grey Knight Ally...Possible?

Ok here's the problem. I play a gunline Black Templar army, but because of this I tend to struggle to grab those back objectives of my opponents. So I began to think, "Hey who does hyper aggressive pushing well?" So I came to the Grey Knights. With their high power units, storm bolters and force weapons, and the fact that I can run psykers from them gives me a huge boost. Now am I missing something? Or could this actually work? And if it could work...what would be good units to use for this? I have set aside around 1000 points for my ally so keep that in mind.

I believe the BT codex says they CANNOT ally with any Psykers.
Every GK is a psyker. So you can't do this.

There's a specific exception for GK in the Codex.

Yeah that exception was one of the reasons that they came to mind in the first place. I just want to see those confused faces when I put black templars and GKs on the table at the same time. But no ideas so far?
What I have been thinking so far has been either Coteaz, 20 Psybolt Strike in Rhinos, and 10 Interceptors with Incinerators or Stern, 9 Terminators, and 10 Psybolt Strike in a Rhino. The Rhinos are not there to be driven in, just as mobile LOS blockers. The reason I've focused as much on the Strike Squads more than the Terminators and such is because I tend to go up against a lot of Daemons and Drop Pod Armies as well. I normally don't have too big of a problem with the Drop Pods, but the Daemons are always a pain.

Well it's hard to give a solid recommendation without knowing the other half of your list. Allies are great for filling gaps in a specific army's capabilities. Black Templars are lacking in a few different departments (but that's to be expected in the oldest codex still standing) , lack of flyers and general lack of mobility come to mind. Grey Knights can help out a lot here. I'm imagining a Stormraven, carrying a small unit of Paladins and a Psyfileman Dread, though I'm not sure how many points that would eat up off the top of my head. Yeah, it does kind of put all your eggs in one basket, but you do only have to make a single reserve roll the get the whole shebang so...

Coteaz is a great idea for HQ too, he's cheap and effective. It keeps the points down so you can spend more on other stuff, rather then shelling out a ton of points on a Grand Master or something.

Stern is not worth it.
Coteaz + 20 psybolt strykes with psycannons are really good, but the rhinos would die easy. You can deepstrike them, though, and you could add a cheap inquisitor with servoskulls to make them disperse only 1d.

Oh I know that Stern really sucks. I just really like the character and I'm really not a competitive player at all. Also I'm trying not to run any Flyers. Other than FMCs I'm not a huge fan of flyers, there just isn't enough ways to deal with them yet so I don't like forcing my friends/opponents to go out and buy new models just so that they'll be able to do something about my shiny new Storm Raven. As to the list I'm planning on taking:
Terminator Marshal
EC + Abhor the Witch
x5 Terminators with x2 Cyclone Missile Launchers + Tank Hunter
3 x5 Crusader Squads with Lascannon and Meltagun
x2 Land Speeders with Typhoon Missile Launchers
Predator Destructor with Lascannon Sponsons

Ok I just ran this today:
Terminator Marshal
EC + Abhor the Witch
x5 Terminators with x2 Cyclone Missile Launchers + Tank Hunter
3 x5 Crusader Squads with Lascannon and Meltagun
x2 Land Speeders with Typhoon Missile Launchers
Predator Destructor with Lascannon Sponsons
Coteaz
2 x10 Strike + x2 Incinerator + Psybolt
x10 Interceptor + x2 Incinerator + Psybolt + Master Crafted Weapon
It actually did really well. Even more so when you think about the fact that I was rolling worth crap today. Was sad to see Coteaz go down to a random bolt pistol shot after I failed the LOS But other than that I liked it. Will I ever play it again? Nope. I just didn't like the feel of it. I need to figure out what other army, other than IG, would make a good ally for my BTs. Anyone have any good ideas? I thought of White Scars. I have enough Bikes to pull off an ally detachment of them, but I'm not too sure about it.

if you need aggressive pushers, spend the points on techmarines and a command squad then put them in a Land Raider.
My BTs usually wreck face with that squad.

Sorry to go off topic, but why oh why would you ever put a Psyfleman Dread inside a Storm Raven?

Coteaz is not a legal ally for Black Templars; the exception only covers Grey Knights Space Marines. Coteaz is neither a Grey Knight nor a Space Marine.

I know what you're thinking with GK, I had the same reaction when the ally rules came up.
The problem with GKs is that you sink a lot of points into them very quickly. The only reason I would try them is if I absolutely must have psyker defence (or offence).
If you want a hard hitting CC unit, why not take an assault-termie squad? With rage, furious charge and righteous zeal they can get in CC relatively quickly and wreck some face. Add a chaplain in there for some serious hurt.

The thing about Grey Knights though is that, while they're not as strong as a squad of Meleenators led by a Chaplain, they're still dangerous in CC, while bringing stellar shooting to the table. Furthermore, they can bring this on their Troops. Crusader Squads aren't exactly stellar when they're not lasplas squads, and even then they're not what they were before the Righteous Zeal nerf.
