Considering the new Eldar codex is rumored to come about late next year, I'm curious on how Harlequin will be handled.
I'm wondering b/c they have an identical entry between Eldar and Dark Eldar codices. I'm wondering if they will rewrite the rules for them and then FAQ the DE or if they will simply remain as is. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Harlequins have already been given a small treatment in the 5th ed. DE Codex. I imagine it will largely stay the same from that. They're not anything particularly great or useful.

Since GW likes to leave its coolest models UP, I'd guess something along the lines of "must only be taken as an allied detachment, can only join eldar as desperate allies, cannot be affected by eldar psychic buffs."
|
"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

I'm hoping that they'll add in the solitaire either as an upgrade for the squad or an HQ choice. It's kind of a big part of the fluff and yet didn't get any representation on the table.

They will probably leave them the way they are. They might change them a little at most but I highly doubt it.

Let me wishcast here: They will get their own mini-dex, printed in WD, and be usable only as allies. There was an unofficial Harlequin Codex released in 3rd edition and Harlies deserve at least as much respect from GW as SoB do.

Two things,
1) Sisters get NO respect from GW so that really doesn't help the cause
2) The Clowndex was fethtardly apegakk broken. You couldn't hit them with ranged attacks and the Solitare would just get stuck in and eat yor entire army.

Haven't heard about an allies supplement. Assuming it is random rumor, I'm hoping they will make it into it.

Well, I think they will stay the same since the DE have a mirror unit and the DE codex will stay as it is for a while.

...There aren't enough Harlequin unit types to get their own book. Most armies have between twenty and forty different possible unit entries scattered across the FOC, the old Harlequins book had nine.

I agree with the majority of posts here. As much as I like the Harlequins, they just arent an army.
And I agree with the others on the not changing the listing part too. The DE list is a mirror of the Eldar list and UNLESS they ( GW ) revamp or FAQ the DE codex, they will stay the same.
Now, this is an idea..
How about giving Eldar players the HQ choice of the HIGH AVATAR...just like they used to have. Give him psychic levels and sweet wargear and the rule that if he is the Warlord, harlie units become troops.. That would be kinda cool.. And give the Death jester back his Brightlance ( which was at the time just a Lascannon w servo-harness ) and also, what happened to those cool grenade launching backpacks?
The Corsair list from the Fall of Mymeara is AWESOME!! In that list, harlies can use venoms armed with craftworld weapons!!
Hopefully we will get some good stuff, but Im not holdin my breath

Phil Kelly was rumored to say he had some ideas for updating the harlies in the Dark Eldar book, and the higher ups said they didn't want the DE to have a superior brand of harlequin than the Eldar do. You could take this two ways... either
A. The harlequins will remain essentially unchanging, trapped by the need to keep them the same across two books published on different schedules.
B. They wanted to save any additions or boosts to the harlies for the proper Eldar codex, where they have a longer history and play a greater role on the field.
I like to think B is the correct choice, but it could go either way.

I hope they return to their old form, an additional army within the eldar book. I didn't get a chance to play with them in 2nd edition. :(

This has been my fear, and I hope GW makes them more competitive in the Eldar book. Eventually they'll have to change them, may as well be now. Yeah, kinda sucks for DE players (if they are made better... who knows with GW...) but they can always ally the Eldar version or maybe GW could do an errata and say "See Eldar Codex" or whatever.
Right now I ally the Eldar version anyway so I can use Farseer powers on them.
