So using a perfect counter unit to make your point, makes them just OK? Thats odd. According to that logic, terminators must suck because Ork Boyz readily hand their asses to them.
I intentionally charged a Drop Podded dreadnought with my spawn. Sure they died and di d nothing to the dreadnought, but he fought those spawn for 4 game turns... that effectively took him out of the game. Tactically perfect. lol

Yes, I should have noted that. They were MoN.

But dreads aren't exactly rare, well, dread type things. So most armies have a built in counter to spawn. Bikers on the other hand, with dual melta will hand that dread its arse. And if they get charged there is always krak grenades and meltabombs.

dreads are going to be endangered soon with the way things are going. Almost anything in the game can take them on. So spawn cant, big woop.

It is a "whoop" if you are trying to decide on a unit of spawn vs a unit of bikers. Personally I think the bikers are much more useful.

Meh, AV12 is still pretty decent against Krak grenades. 10 Grenades hitting on 4s and glancing on 6s yields... .83333 glances
Not exactly stellar, especially when the Dread is going to kill 1-2 guys a turn.
Plus there are a few AV13 walkers out there. I think you will be seeing more Furiosos and Iclads in the future.
AV12 dreadnoughts have never been particularly hard to kill.

They are with chaos spawn. Especially for the people advocating taking ~500 points worth.

bikes may be better, but they cost more and have a different role. bikes can shoot, but they cant tarpit anything. Especially not terminators. Throw a unit of spawn at a TH/ SS unit and laugh.

Spawn are useable, but certainly not as flexible as the bikers. If all you want them for is a bunch of ablative wounds to deliver a close combat lord then the spawn are fine.
I would just have trouble supporting their use as a stand alone unit. I'd rather put out a unit of 3x nurgle bikers with dual melta than a unit of spawn. I think the bikers would accomplish a little more.

really depends on what you are looking for
3 nurgle bikers are only 108 points where as 5 naked spawn are 150 points. Still it is hard to compare 3 wounds to 15 wounds.
Even with MoK, 3 bikers with meltas are a vunerable target. They take a wound and their either lose their champion or they lose a melta. They also take a panic check. VotlW is only 3 points.
