Subject: Emperor's Children... That are not pink...
A friend of mine really wants to start and EC army but hates the fact that their armour is pink.
I told him to do a pre-heresy (purple) army, but he prefers the post-heresy (chaos) version.
Can you guys think of any fluff justification that they would not have the standard black/pink armour? Perhaps an inner-sanctum, or a renegade force lead by Lucius or another EC Warlord?
Maybe they worship Slaanesh by painting their armour dark colors thereby getting some kind of perverse pleasure of NOT indulging in outlandish behavior 24/7 and letting out all their pent up emotion in one overwhelming act. Tantric
Slaanesh Worship? haha
Thoughts/ideas?

But pink is glorious and manly. It'd defeat the purpose :/

In the novella Reflection Crack'd, many of the newly turned chaos Emperor's Children are described as having the most outlandish colors and designs all over their armor. From Rorschach-esque blobs to garish, multi colored horizontal stripes to designs that would make old school Night Lords armor look tame. All in the name of giving more shocking and powerful experiences for those who view it. The pink and black is most likely only a single pattern that happens to be most common, but of all the chaos legions, the EC are likely to have the most variability in colors and designs in order to continually provide new sensory input. I wouldn't be surprised if some of their armor could even change color depending on their mood.

The fluff does not say they like pink, only that they paint their armor in bright and outlandish color schemes. I would go with the old 80's scheme with the rainbow, zebra stripes, animal print, and who knows what else. Noise Marines were cooler when they were rock gods.

Well, isn't the idea that Slaanesh Marines are have had their senses become very dull and can only see extreme colors (such as bright pink, purple, and yellow)?
So wouldn't any bright color suffice?

The current pink and black theme is there because its easier for the 'Eavy Metal team (and less daunting for potential customers), and because Slaanesh has been watered down to being the god of bewbz and panty-raids.

But seriously it makes little difference what colors, cause if you really wanted to you could say that the marines in question are a warband that split off from the Emperor's Children, which is what I assume you mean when you say pre-heresy.

1.) He can chose any colour scheme he likes for any non-EC Slaanesh CSMs.
2.) Wanting EC and hating pink is like wanting Space Wolves but hating Wolves and Vikings.

That's actually a point; Noise Marines aren't necessarily Emperor's Children. Make up a different Slaaneshi warband.

Incorrect. The EC use any colours that catch the eye, like striping bright yellow and blue. As long as they're attention grabbing and garish, they work. Though I've been using the light purple for my EC because GW don't seem to sell pink anymore.
Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

Indeed, there was much weeping and gnashing of teeth around here when tentacle pink was discontinued.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."

I am not sure if all post-heresy Emporer's Children fall under the category of Noise Marines.
If they have not given themselves over so specifically to that particular order then they might retain some of their original legion colors.
So I would say post-heresy EC are not solely limited to pink or even the garish color schemes.

The Emperor's Children are a broken Legion. Their Primarch disappeared (he was possibly killed by the Black Legion during the Eye of Terror Slave Wars) and they have no clear leader. They've splintered off into thousands of warbands that can have any sort of color scheme, as long as it looks crazy.

Well since the EC have bright and vibrant colors, I would replace the pink with a really stand out lime green neon color, that would be sure to look B.A. on his chaos forces.

The centre of a massive brood chamber, heaving and pulsating.
I am considering doing an Emperor's Children army (but in a more traditional scheme) but I can think of a few good ideas.
For starters, how about polished ivory with brass trims? That would be extremely extravagant and loud whilst not plain ugly. Likewise a combination of white and red could work.
Another idea would be to go for the traditional scheme (black with some pink panels and either iron or brass trim on the higher ranking models) but to heavily weather the pink, so it was more a dirty salmon flesh colour.
