i was just looking through gamesworkshop and seen that sisters of battle didn't have any army essentials. So what is up with that and when in the codex coming out.

The newest codex was in the White Dwarf last year. No other way to get it (legally) at this point

They were in White Dwarf US issues 379 and 380, August and September of 2011. The rules have not reappeared as a PDF or online supplement, and there hasn't been much in the rumormill about any changes to the Sisters of Battle in the foreseeable future.

Friends went to games day and stood in line to see phil kelly, he didnt give specifics but he hinted at sisters not being impossible for next year, but he could have been pulling my friends leg.

Really hoping for an update for more fluff and having an actual Codex. They are fine the way they are in the WD update. while not top tier they hold their own. hoping Phill Kelly was hinting and not leg pulling.

Honestly the worst thing about Sisters of Battle at this current time is the price of their models. Argumentatively you might as well build a Forge World army for the same price.

A 500 pt SoB army or 2000 pt Krieg army?
Hmmm..
Aye, SoB are overly expensive. Are they already finecast or..?

They aren't an army anymore, and they don't have a codex coming out.
There was a "Go away, leave us alone!" codex printed in White Dwarf last year for all of the existing SoB players to continue using their armies. But I wouldn't suggest collecting the army. Not only will it be unreasonably expensive, but in the end, you have essentially a cast-off faction that gets no support, and no new models.
Anything you hear as far as rumors are the same rumors that have been circulating for years. But, take seriously the fact that the Sisters haven't had a legitimate codex since 3rd Edition (in which they shared with the Inquisition, and didn't even actually have to have any Sisters in the army), and we're on to 6th.
Save your money, look elsewhere.

lol, talk about "counter-rumours". If GW was as dismissive as claimed, they would not have revamped their website with the new SoB section. They would not even have thrown us the bone of the horribly light WD Codex. I know that some players do not like them, but that does not make them any less an army as they have always been.
No. If people are truly interested in them, why not start now? They just should be aware of what they're getting into - little support (it is there, but not nearly comparable to the other factions) and expensive models. That being said, the metal minis are, or so I believe, truly a beautiful thing. You can actually feel their weight in your hand and the detail shows nicely. Compared to the just as expensive Finecast fiasco ... people are saying that the look has been getting better lately (and of course GW is very forthcoming in exchanging damaged minis), but even then there has been talk about their smell, toxicity and their tendency to deform on hot days. I honestly hope that GW will never make the switch to FC for the Sororitas. The only problem with metal minis is their price, and that it's very hard to kitbash them. In exchange, you get something that actually feels like it's worth something by sheer weight alone. Call it an elitist affection, but plastic just doesn't compare. Also, you can be sure to field an army that few people in your vicinity will play already!
That being said, I would still not expect a new Codex anytime soon. I doubt we would have to wait another ten years for an update, but still.
Not that it matters much, for people do not play Sisters of Battle for their rules, but for their style.

At least not legally.

Meh, I will consider them "fine" when a custom HQ is as viable as the underpriced, overpowered SCs.
Also, what's up with all the lost wargear? Really hoping this is just a stopgap, as was rumoured, and that an actual Codex - if it ever comes out - will bring back the fluffy variety.

Wow. Keep grinding that axe. They have their own listing on the site and are still produced. There is no evidence to support the fact that they will be squatted, just as their is no evidence of the fact that they will get a new codex.
Your exact same argument and proof could have been leveled at Blood Angels. No real codex in 3rd (add-on codex to C: SM) and a 'Go Away, leave us alone!' codex printed in WD. And yet...
@ OP: If you are looking to play a Sisters army, look to get a copy of the codex either legitimately or through other means and go for it. It is not for the weak of wallet though.

I tell you this: I would LOVE to collect battle sisters, the one thing that keeps me from starting is the cost. 17 bucks for 3 sisters? I'd rather see plastic kits, then pay the cost of metal minis.

They seem to work just fine as an army in the present edition, esp with the fortification and allies rules can have some fun combinations.
There are ways of getting the Codex - especially since GW can't be bothered to actually put it up as a pdf :(
oh and if you are interested I did make a full Codex up here

More like put a "faith system" in place and took the old one behind a shed for a talk. It works, it just doesn't feel anywhere near as nice as the old one. Plus side is the codex will probably be cheaper and easier to find.

It's not an axe grind, it's just the simple truth. The guy asked a question, and I'm giving him the right answer. It will help him save money by not buying an army that's in the 40K version of a persistent vegetative state with little to no chance of ever being revived.
Games Workshop learned from the Squat fiasco. Don't abandon an army, it's bad for business and the players will bother you for years. But you can ignore one indefinitely so long as every so often, you make rules for the existing models so that people can still play them.
If he still chooses to play Sisters knowing that, then more power to him. The faction has some cool models (and some hideous ones, but hey. that's every army). But it's important to know when you're picking up an army that will never, ever, get anything new made for it before you're several hundred dollars invested.

At least give me back my anti-psyker capabilities. With the WH codex people didn't always bother taking psykers against me, now it's a no-brainer to take some nasty BRB powers for use. No Psychic Hoods, no psykers to boost my Deny roll, one combiweapon with no AP that causes Perils to a psyker that suffered an unsaved wound from it. How many armies have lightly armored psykers running around alone?

Psychic hoods were Inquisitorial stuff, I believe - but yes, I thought the old Shield of Faith was somewhat more fluffy than the new 6++. Granted, the invul save is a nice way to display their grit, but I would have preferred if that stayed a specific Act of Faith rather than a permanently active rule, instead having the latter remain their faith-fueled willpower resistance against psychic attacks (and beneficial effects!).
Oh well, just a minor gripe with the new rules. The loss of characterful wargear or the semi-dependence on SC is a worse issue. And yes, the Condemnor-Boltgun is a joke. Who would actually take that silly one-shot-wonder?

A proper new Codex should have lots more toys - lets face it - its bound to have to make them sell.
I get what Vet Sarge is saying but didn't we all say the same about Dark Eldar given how long they waited for a new Codex and the revitlisation of them was one of GWs better moves

Except that's incorrect. When C: WH came out, we got multiple new sculpts and models ( St C, Exo, Immo, New multi-part metal Canonesses, Banner Bearers and Superiors, etc). When WD came out, we got a new unit(Battle Conclave).
Don't confuse your dislike for an army with it not receiving support. Yes, we have a WD Codex right now. Doesn't mean that won't change in the future. Even with the limited WD codex, SoB are a fun and interesting army if you're willing to shell out the cash.

As it currently stands SoB are in a sort of limbo state, they don't really have anything 'solid' to buy. It's all a little bit 'gap filler' if you get me. I'm sure given time that they will get their shiny new sets and codex but that doesn't look to be the near future, something like late 2013 or early 2014 imo as GW's mainstream update list is pretty full, Sisters are more niche popularity I'm afraid.
That being said they are still a playable army, just a very expensive playable army...

No need, just bring back the Frateris Militia of old. They had rules, and they had models. We already have a Cleric HQ squad, Missionary Elites, Penitent Engines for Heavy Support ... all that's missing is the massed ranks of the faithful.
I suppose it would be a very sick army that would not allow for much variation (in terms of units; could be compensated by allowing greater customisation for the Frateris squads), comparable to a Valhallan infantry rush, but quite doable.
