You can use pretty much anything except Vespids, Aun'Va and Gun Drone Squads and have some success.

Only if "some success" is defined by beating bad lists and/or bad players.

It's kind of amusing, Tau players seem to be worse than any other army about assuming that every unit in their codex must magically have some kind of purpose, and refusing to admit that units are just garbage. I wonder why that is, could it be an overreaction to dealing with people who assume the entire codex sucks?

People have been using Ethereals to make their XV88's fearless on this forum and have had much success. IMO I would try it if I could make room for one in my lists.

Skyrays are our only source of BS4 Markerlights( not including Forgeworld, because not every group is Forgeworld happy) And some people on ATT and Dakka have been using them for AA alongside Markerlights.

Ionheads have been used to pop light vehicles over Railheads, because Railheads should be dropping Pie Plates like they are fresh out of the Oven. The Oven of Pain.

I still like using Pathfinders over Tetras, for no other Reason than I like having Devilfishes to do the Sea turtle with.

Shadowsun has been used even in 5th to help boost Leadership to Necron Levels of Badassery.

Farsight Bombs have kinda dropped off the Planet, but More Suits is always welcome.

We wouldn't have so many Threads on Stealth Suits if they didn't have some use.

This isn't 5th, Peregrine. Shooting became a lot better, and as one of the Premier shooting armies, And hold your hat This revelation is mind blowing, Most of our army was improved. Now Crisis Suits are still the better choice. I love them. I like the look of the suits and if I had an extra 500 bucks, I'd make my dream 2k army with 30 Crisis suits( Thank you dual force orgs!), but we are no longer trapped in the 10 Crisis Suits, 12 fire warriors, 4,000 kroot, 2 railheads, and 3 Broadsides lists. We can -gasp- Experiment with other, non optimal options because shooting is more effective to find the list for us.

It’s a bit off topic but what does making xv88s fearless even do? I don’t understand that purpose of it

Having them run away when a shield drone dies is SUPER annoying, and quite costly to your game.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

A little late to the party put I am liking the setup of 3 suits w/2 target locks, FB, Markerlight and marklight Drone.

It has a small footprint, puts 2 lights and a FB in the opponents back field in a hurry. While it does not do a lot of damage like the bigger Stealth Clouds, it makes for a nice and annoying harasser unit able to engage up to 3 targets a turn.

Boomwolf – It seems pricey but I suppose any other unit can use the reroll in line of sight, I may have to try it out later.

45-75 points for a marker light seem excessive. At the same time you can take 5 pathfinders for the same cost as one, scout moving into mid field or cover makes them generally hard to remove though they are still fragile. Doesn’t seem worth it but if it works out it works out.

Im going to try the bellow squad in an upcoming 2k point game to see how it works out for fun.

SHAS'O WITH PR FB MT VRT STIM 2XSD
6X STEALTH SUITS WITH 2 FB WITH TA AND 4 WITH 2X GD

its under 500 points for a persistent 17men body that can kill about 4 TEQ a turn.

Another use for Shadowsun that I read somewhere: Using her drone to provide the Leadership bubble while using a suicide Ethereal to give your entire Tau army preferred enemy. You could try it without Shadowsun, but that's even riskier than trying this with her.

The Marklight upgrade is about 40 points for the 2 of them. It makes a nice supplement to the Skyray. I had originally just been running it as a bare harrasser with FB and target locks, and a TA. I was aiming for something thorny enough that it could not be ignored but not so nasty that it got fired down by the entire backfield. Pathfinders make me nervous as they feel to exposed. If you could get stealth fields for them as an upgrade they would be much much better.

lol i think at that point the pathfinders may be too strong. if they where just like regular scouts that can improve coversave by 1 i think it would be good enough but sealth and shrouded would be just too strong.

the sky ray i have troubles with as it just seems limited with a limited cargo. once its missiles are gone its gone, but if it does end up getting sky fire in the next codex i could reconsider.
