So stunned and shaken flyer, you have to move 18"s in the direction you are facing and cannot turn. I have had this done to me and opponent placed a unit 18 inches in front so my Storm raven had couldnt do the min 18" move and crashed and burned. Watched a bat rep last night where this happened and they put the Storm raven (which I run) into hover mode, is this legal?

I now always load my SR's up with extra armour to avoid this as I didnt think you were able to go into hover mode?

No, you cannot change mode. Specified in the rules for flyers

That's for velocity locked and it's in the FAQ. Where do you see you can't change modes if stunned/shaken? Honestly, I don't see it in the flyer rules or the FAQ.

maybe i am missing something... Why is the flyer locked to 18 " from just a stunned/shaken result? Also why can't it switch to hover?

Crew stunned is the correct term I was thinking of, states on the vehicle damage chart .... unless it is a zooming flyer. In which case it can only move 18" 's and cannot turn.

Well there you go. You can only move 18" and can't turn.
Trying to get around this in hover mode, you'd be breaking the stunned rule.

Not really, you'd just go into hover at the start of the turn and can't move. It does say "if it's a zooming flyer" and nothing states you can't switch to hover. You're given two constraints to follow if affected by stunned, both of a which a flyer with hover could abide by.

The Stunned effect puts the limitations in place based on when it happens, not what you choose to do next turn.

If you're Hovering and get stunned, you can Zoom next turn.
If you're Zooming and get stunned, you move 18" forwards and don't turn next turn.

At the time the damage happened, the Flyer WAS zooming. So the restriction applies. It doesn't say "while zooming", so you're still required to move the minimum distance.
In hover mode you can't move fast enough for the minimum distance, so hover mode can't be entered.

Hover aside, can you really crash a stunned flyer just by having some models beneath its next move? I get the logic, but it seems unintuitive.

Per Zoom rule for Flyers:

"If a Zooming Flyer is forced to move less than 18" in its own Movement phase, it is automatically Wrecked."

Yup, it crashes and burns. its just a risk you have to keep in mind with Flyers.

I thought that it didn't work like that because if a flyer for example finished a move over enemy models, you just stand them on It's base, as the base isn't technically part of the hull, which is how the measuring is done for vehicles.

Nope. You are not allowed to move your base within 1" of an enemy model. All skimmers and flyers have bases as well as Hulls so both rules apply.

I always use armybuilder to do my lists and for the SR if you open up the upgrades list it only lists locator beacon, stupidly I didnt see the drop down button for other options and assumed I couldnt take extra armour until I double checked the codex!. I do indeed buy extra armour every game now i use them!

If its Zooming but not moving, it crashes.
The damage chart itself has the rules for the effects you're looking for, it's not in the flyer section.

That explains it, we assumed the rules for Flyers would be in the Flyers section.

How foolish we are!
