I'm sure quite a few Dakka-ites are parents, and I'm certain that most of those who are have more than a slight geeky streak in them. The other day I had an amazing little incident with my daughter that can only be considered a "geeky parenting win" and I wonder if anyone else has some to share.

Here is what happened. We are slowly working our way through every episode of Star Trek TNG (we'll move on to DS9 and Voyager after). At the end of the season 4 finale episode we are greeted with what is apparently a character that died a bit back in the show. The look of astonishment on my 8 year old daughter's face was priceless. I then asked her what she thought was going on. She promptly said "Its a time warp!" to which I immediately respond with "Its just a jump to the left?" and without a second's hesitation she replies "Then a step to the right." So proud

My sister played with my X-men figures when I was a kid, then she got her own (Rogue, Storm, Jubilee, Black Cat [not an X-man]). And I stole them. That's kinda like TMNT figures...next step up anyway. I'm not sure if you 'helped' your cousin with her/his kids though.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Suddenly that becomes fair. Does she hate you now?

We spell colour with a U and you don't. You spell "make awesome" R-U-I-N and we spell it phonetically. Canadian vs American english is weird.

I'm not a parent (can't be).
but a mate's tale warmed the sub-cockle area of my heart.

His teenage daughter was rummaging around for her phone in her bag when they were on the train together.
She pulled out a sonic screwdriver ... (hers, she'd had it since she was 9 or so).

He was so proud (geek dad).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

The Wife made a birthday cake for GC with a Tardis in the middle surrounded by Daleks. The Daleks were Lego but the Tardis was pure buttercake and various frostings. Yea baby!

The Boy played 40K when he was younger, but quit after a three month winning streak.

Your vengeance is deemed fair. Make sure you get them ponies for Christmas.

I think this counts as a parenting win:

The family that geeks out together stays together?

I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn

Agreed

Halloween is my wife's favorite holiday so we tend to do it up. Each year we costume by theme for trick or treating. This year we did fantasy; orc, fairy, witch, dragonborn, dragonborn, and dragon. (Me, the wife, the kids) Last year we did Scooby Doo, year before that was Star Wars, and year before that DC.

A fate worse than death, just joking. Punish the cousin not the kids you know it will affect them later.

My daughter and I play Zelda games together. Started with Link to the Past on my old SNES and now we are at Skyward Sword.

She loves Link almost as much as she loves Hello Kitty!

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

@ TC: that is sooo cute! RHPS ftw!

I'm not a parent myself but have helped foster some gaming/geekiness in my little brother (well he's not so little anymore being 21). Sometimes when we're texting or even just driving listening to one of my many videogame soundtracks we'll tell each other game related things as if they were IRL things. Example: "Yeah so my show was Friday night we did well but it wasn't that great. Next show we'll have our Limit Breaks." or "feth! I missed my turn. Reload my savegame." We usually close our texts/emails with "don't forget to save" or "keep your MP up with some Ether".
