I recently finished my first Chaos Space Marine Heldrake. If you'd be so kind as to give the image in my Dakkadakka Gallery some votes at this link it would be much appreciated.

Regarding the paint scheme, the progression here is black to dark blue to slightly less dark blue through about four different brightnesses of Citadel purple. This was all done with the new Citadel paint range from Games Workshop. Stars were painted with White Scars white. Of course, some stars shine brightly as eight-pointed Chaos stars! This progression works not only locally on the wings, but also through the whole model from the outer wings and head to the small inner wings and neck to the main body as the bright nebulae give way to a darker blue glow and then to the inky blackness of deep space.

Arch enemies make for a great theme on scenic bases so I used parts of a crashed Grey Knights Stormraven to tell the tale of the destruction wrought by the Heldrake on the battlefield. Meanwhile, the surface of the planet itself roils and boils with lava as the power of Chaos literally tears it apart.

The cool star field tabletop on which the photos were taken is the Battlefleet Gothic table at the Games Workshop Battle Bunker in Bowie, MD. The table was painted by one of the talented employees there.

Great paint job. I still feel that the tail is to short on that model. I have a Helldrake commission that I am making a scorpion tail for, I hope this improves the stunty look.

Those look fantastic, but I feel like the armor plates that are plain black feel rather flat.

For once I want to comment on a model I normally dont like at all. The Helldrake. Your colortheme, with the stars and all, really makes it look good. I like it very much Awesome theme, good job.

The stars are definitely the best part. But the black is a little bland. Maybe some battle damage would help?

You have managed to make a very nasty sculpt (The Heldrake) look amazing! It almost makes me want to collect a new Chaos army...Almost! Top banana sir!

I know its an oversight by most people but you did a great job on those pipes of the. They have a look all their own.

I got to see the Heldrake last Saturday at the Bunker. It looks even better in person. Very eye catching, even from far away.

I'm taking work-in-progress photos now of the next model to get the nebula decoration and will share here as a tutorial soon. In fact, I'm going to turn it into one of my next hobby articles for the Spikey Bits blog.
