O.k. looking at getting a solo to compliment my new Legion army. I am debating between Shepherd and the Forsaken models. What benefits does each have and what specialties do they come with that would help me boost my army a bit. I current army list goes like this-
Lyleth(warlock)
Carnivean(Heavy Warbeast)
Seraph(Light Warbeast)
2 Shredders
1 Unit of Ogrun Warspears

I am ordering the LoE army rulebook today but would like to order a solo today as well and am looking for some assistance on which one would work best for my army as it stands today.
Thanks for any and all help.

The shepherd is a good solo for ranged beasts since the range on her ability is much shorter than the forsaken's. That isn't to say the shepherd can't service melee beasts at all, just that a little extra range from the forsaken makes it easier. The forsaken also has much more offensive punch if things get hairy. The shepherd does have the advantage of being able to heal a beast as well, so if your opponent is trying to kill your beasts with incrimental damage she can really shine by keeping it healthy.

One advantage the Shepard does have for melee beasts is Beast Master. Being able to charge your melee beatstick out of your warlocks control area, and still have it kill an enemy heavy, is great. The fact that you can't leach next turn...meh, small sacrifices.

You - You there, wolf heathen! I long for combat!
Wolf heathen - I accept your challenge, but only on my terms! 250% points for me!
You - Ha! You've activated my trap card! Allied army! Come forth to assist!
Friend - Sup
Wolf Heathen - An equal point match?! This is not acceptable! Tau friend! Form up on me!

And then some guy throws a manta at the table and promptly breaks it in half sending figures and terrain everywhere.
