The centre of a massive brood chamber, heaving and pulsating.

So, a simple one: What, in your opinion, is the most physically well designed and nice looking games console?

For the sake of argument, we won't count PCs, as they vary too much, and seeing as you can get custom cases, lighting etc. it would just get complicated, and we also won't count smartphones with gaming capabilities, as they aren't really gaming devices.

For me, there is only one contender: the Nintendo Gamecube, especially the original purple model. Of all the consoles, it is ADORABLE. Everything about it is just so friendly, cute, happy, compact, neat, and most importantly, fun.

Anyway, what do you think?

Personally I do like the original xbox 360. Simple yet solid.

Original Xbox 360 agreed. Very sleek very nice. Not a fan of the color. White just isn't me. The new black ones though

I agree with the Gamecube. But the Xbox 360 is a close second.

Either Playstation or PS2. They are bonafide design Classics, a different league to any other console. They are actually highly regarded by design Proffesionals.

The Wii and DS lite come close, also the original Concept model of the PSP.

Thats speaking as someone that is fairly Knowledgeable about 'Good' design. The gamecube is fairly charming but not a piece of great product design. The orginal Xbox 360 is just awful, the poster who put 'sleek' in the same sentence as Xbox 360 must be smoking some goooooodd crack.

The Gamecube console is wonderful to look at, but the controller is chunky and ugly. The newer Xbox 360s that look like Batmobiles are pretty ace though.

I don't see anything wrong with the GameCube controller I find the X-box 360 controller has a similar feel in terms of size, hand placement and button layout I like both controllers a lot.

The Gamecube controller is just really unnatural for most games. The only games on that controller that feel "right" to me are the first party games designed specifically with it in mind, and Resident Evil 4. Granted there weren't too many 3rd party games on the Gamecube after a couple years, but nobody else ever really got the hang of it. The Xbox 360 controller is probably my favorite at this point, just eking out the Dualshock 2.

My vote goes to the nintendo 64. That thing is just rugged, but looks amazing. The controls are similar to the x-bawks, and just useful enough that most games are easy.

I love the original MegaDrive myself. Although the new PS3, you know, the top loading thingamajig, comes really close. Its just a very pleasing piece of design.

Eh a PC isnt a console to begin with which is what your thread wanted to focus on. Regardless, the Xbox 360 elite is probably the best in my opinion.

When the rich rage war it's the poor who die

Armies I have: Chaos Space Marines, Tau, Necrons, High Elves

Armies I want:Lizardmen, Warriors Of Chaos, Dark Eldar

Armies I may get: Dark Angels, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts

Do hand-helds count? My vote is for the Game Boy Advance SP (I think that's what it was called...the clamshell one). I also like the DS Lite and the PSP.

If we aren't counting hand-helds, the current black Xbox360 does it for me.

Speaking of controllers the Small Pads (which replaced those huge dinner plates in the EU/japan) for the original xbox were really good, they felt a little hollow but the sticks were great (not as good as the original pads sticks, they're legendary, Bungie apparently still used them while designing the 360 halo games) and it was a comfortable shape.

Yeah, handhelds count. And I would agree with the GBA SP. Some friends of mine had the clamshell model, they are really nice little things.

And I will agree about the GameCube controller. Never actually used it, but damn it looks uncomfortable (although not quite as bad as, say, the Atari Jaguar with it's ludicrous telephone pad)

The game cube controller was actually ok. I have one to play classic games on my Wii, it does the job. Certainly it's no harder to use than the N64 controller. Which was odd.

Maybe I'm weird but I hated the SP. Loved the original Nintendo Advanced.

on the forum. Obviously

I'm going to have to say the gamecube as well. I mean, like a companion cube IRL!
Also, eternal darkness (even though I never played it, sadly. And I don't intend on buying a console)
The PS 2 is also kinda cool though.

on the MOOOOOONNNNAAAHHHH

me being a console collector of sorts would have to say the atari 2600 or 7800, i also have a soft spot for my broken NES but all of nintendos designes are solid and speak for them selves.

i do also like the look of th origional xbox but thats more so the controler, thought that just came to mind, the vectrex is definatly a striking machine with every passing day i regret selling my old one. i could probably go on about this for days but i would have to split it into two types of good looking consoles, the practical almost domestic consoles out of which the nintendo wii is a clear winner and the consoles where practicality isnt a priority where i would say the atari 7800 or 2600.

I would not even compare the GameCube and N64 controller the N64 controller is so badly designed the analog stick (one the most used parts) is directly in the middle so it's far away from both hands, the controller is massive making it hard to move quickly around the controller, there's

three handles when you only have two hands, the d-pad far away from all the other buttons, the C buttons should be a joystick and the Z- button is under the controller.

I will agree that the N64 controller is an abomination on an otherwise excellent system. Stupid controller design aside, the N64 does look great. N
