Anybody pick this up? So far the updated DooM3 looks awesome. Tooled around with DooM1 as well, brings back memories!

Funnily enough, the original is actually better looking, they had to change so much to get it running properly again they destroyed it.

Also, buying doom 1 2 and 3 seperately is cheaper then buying BFG edition. Really, the only reason to get the new one is the bonus missions. Which btw, are all just rehashed maps from the original.

Oh, and it's even worse because it doesn't allow for any mods to be used. Including all the great texture packs out there which in the end, make it even worse looking then the original.

ID is become worse and worse as time goes on. Still no RAGE editor either, which as you can guess, was promised to to be released with RAGE.

on the forum. Obviously

The only reason to get the BFG is to get the working versions of Doom 1 and 2. Doom 3 is crap.

They fixed the flash light issue, but they made the cutscenes unskippable and introduced a really invasive quicksave feature. Like, when you save it it pauses the game and a orange bar takes up half the screen.

Yeah I was never a big fan of part 3. They stepped too far away from the source material. Redesigning the demons, weapons, and DooM Guy was completely unneeded. Just take the classic designs and update them. Apparently this is what they planned to do with DooM 4 but I dont think thats happening anytime soon.

I played a demo of RAGE; what a waste. Ive already played two Fallout games I dont need to play another one. GIVE US DOOM 4 AND DO IT RIGHT.

I loved 3. My point is 3 BFG editions a pile of gak.

And getting doom 1 and 2 to work is really damn easy. I still have the original win 95 CD's which work fine in compatibility mode.

I would just run ZDoom, with the mouse look and jumping.

3 was okay but didnt FEEL like DooM.

Through the looking glass

Tried playing doom 3, multiple times. Got to the spider boss and got one shotted every time I played. This was on normal difficulty. MY friend who blazed through the game thought it was wierd or perhaps I was just messing around, so we co op. We get to the spider boss and the same thing happens. He just keeps one shotting us. I never beat the game.

With that said, I think buying doom 3 again is stupid. New textures? Mods did that a long time ago. Mounted flashlight? Mods did that a long time ago. Extra levels? I'm pretty sure mods did that too.

I enjoyed Doom 3 (though it wasn't entirely Doom...) it was a fun game nonetheless.

I'll wait a few months for the price drop, then pick it up for my Xbox though. (Cos my laptop will most certainly not run it, and I'm too used to shooters on a console these days xD)

The only reason I'd ever get this is for achievement purposes.

And so ID becomes the new EA/Capcom/Square Enix or whatever other game studio it's considered "cool" to bash now...

Heh, funny you should say that.

I actually already had 1 and 2 as well, both on my 360 via LIVE, and original PS1 editions. Thought I'd give three one last chance... as points where involved.

I remember enjoying Doom 3 a long time ago, but going back to it now... the combat/enemy-ai is just such a bore.

I still really enjoy the environment and enemy designs though, they still look pretty great.

I played through Doom 3 BFG, and a bit into the expansion, but I was just getting kinda bored with the playing part, lol.

I was tempted to pick it up, seeing as I've been meaning to get first two games on the 360, but wasn't sure if it was worth forking out for what's ultimately a shinier version of Doom 3 with the torch fix. In the end I opted for the Doom 3: Collector's Edition on the original Xbox, which for a vastly cheaper price offers Doom 1 + 2, and the Xbox port of 3 which includes a two-player co-op mode. Since I'm not a graphics junkie it was probably the best choice for me.

Doom BFG Edition is already down to £25 (Preowned). Give it 2-3 more months and I'll probably grab a copy
