Since I got my very first IG Battleforce and it came with enough bases for 3 HWTs, I decided I'd try making them interchangable. I took 1/8 inch magnets and glued them to the gun tripods, then put magnets on the guns. This way, I'm not restricted to any one particular weapon type on each base. Also, I'm going to put magnets on the base itself, and magnetize a few gunners/spotters/missile launcher guys. This way, I can have a gunner and spotter on the base when using an autocannon, lascannon or bolter. And when I want to run missile launchers, I'll pull the gun off, pull the magnetized gunner off, and plop down a magnetized missile launcher guy to go with the spotter.

If I want to increase my number of HWTs, I can just buy some more bases and tripods. (Or make my own tripods from sprues)

Its a common solution. Good luck!

Ah. I guess I wasn't very helpful then. Oh well.

Its always helpful to share your own experience As long as you don't get too sad if you find others have done similar things already

may have been cheaper to just pin it, paperclips come cheap, magnets not so much.

Yeah. I foolishly thought that I was doing something sort of new. As I browse the web, appearently a lot of people magnetize their HWTs. Feeling rather foolish here. If there's any moderators around, please delete this embarassment of a thread. :(

If repeating information was a sin the threads on thinning paints and how to strip models would be non existent.

Nothing wrong with trying to share your knowledge.

I agree, its a great idea.
I have found you don't actually need to pin/magnet anything for the most part. Each big gun has a nub that plugs into the tripod just fine, I just have a handful of big guns and pick which ones to plug in for the battle. Not so bad

yea, with IG HWT's you dont really even need paperclips to pin them, they already have pins, what i did however, was make one guy using an autocannon and use the second guy on a separate base to use the missile launcher, i then used the lascannons to make my valkyries into vendettas, those i did use magnets for though.
sold all those models ages ago,
now with my Marines i magnetize every character's arms and have a pile of arms for each: HQ/Elites, Troops, Fast Attack, and Devastators since each right shoulder pad needs a different Icon. all of my terminators are magnetized and i can have them either shooty or assault, depending on which situation i require, same with the dreads and my rhino's/razorbacks. another upside to magnets: you can rotate arms/weapons and have almost no fear of the model breaking should it decide to jump off a cliff...Err i mean table...
