Those who worship Nurgle may also despise civilisation. They want to see it brought low and destroyed.

This may even result in a sort of deluded help for the poor, free them all from the shackles of Imperial rule and let them wallow in their own filth. If the common citizens are so unhappy then they will like the alternative even if it kills them all.

Hey lord General Cheese where did you find that fluff it sounds awesome probably a good read, anyway thanks for the advice everyone it's a great help, with the turn to Nurgle what sounds better the chapter being accused of heresy for their death worshipping by the ecclesiarchy and Inquistion trying to hunt them down to destroy them or the chapter turning on the Imperium in order to destroy it bringing death to it's followers

In granting those who oppose me death I am giving them the mercy of Nurgle.
Releasing my enemies from the bonds of fear and oppression , from the shame of betrayal, I preform a kindness I erase contempt, regret, sorrow, insanity all the burdens of life, embrace death and be free or reject Nurgles gift and be destroyed.

They land at pretty much where the last hold out of PDF is a space port that was built on the you will build it they will come mentality it was basically alone in the middle of a bunch of farm like fields and stuff where the last loyal PDF is. The commander of the garison informs them that it was a slaneshi cult that started it now every one on the planets now pretty much slaneshi cultists. The over confident catchan commander takes his men on a death or glory charge against the cultists commisairs prevented any converts to slanesh then they reached a hive city and were slaughtered when a group of daemons tore through the warp. they fell back to the sky port under half strength and a fat portly man walked up to the CO and he said he had a way to make sure his men lasted longer all he had to do was poison this PDF lord general he did so his men got a cough but got tougher next all you have to do is kill the commisairs and they can shrug off fatal wounds he did and eventually they became full fledged nurgle cultists this is how i see most nurgle cults being started by a commander trying to help his men

That's a common thing, mercy of all things. Unselfishness leads men to become Nurgle-worshipers, never mind the awesome McCool name I mentioned. Insanely Disgusting Diarrhea Danny.

What a lot of people forget is that Nurgle is also the god of stagnation fuelled by the wish for things to stay as they are. It's why he's Tzeentch's arch-enemy.

It's quite conceivable for a particularly conservative Chapter to fall for that aspect of Nurgle as that's essentially all the entire Imperium ever does - try to keep things as they have always been.

The pustules and diseases and stuff all come later, in small increments...

I think they would turn to Nurgle in hopes of eternal life, not knowing that meant rotting for eternity. Also, Nurgle is quite friendly and promises a release from the pain of the world. He loves his followers and only gives them plagues and such because he thinks they are like "presents". Maybe to some of them, Nurgle could be like the father they never had.

As I read it put eloquently before, Nurgle is the hero to all gamers everywhere. He is fat and entropic but still has a hot Eldar Goddess wife and a great attitude. Nurgle will always love you for who you are, and not what you look like. He's like Santa if Santa ran Halloween instead of Christmas and had a boss army of walking corpses.

I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome.

Followers of Nurgle do not feel any pain at all, from their infections or anything else for that matter.

Also, sheer unadulterated loathing of everything, some perverse desire to keep the cycle of life turning, believing that Nurgle is the only being that cares for them, could all be good reasons.

Cheers Cuddlysquiq those are some good ideas the Vision part sounds good here is an idea so far
A librarian starts to experience visions from Nurgle who is believed to be Death who the chapter worships (not knowing Deaths true form/ name) showing him how he can save the Imperium from extinction by making it an empire of the undead (after all look how long the Emperor has survived being a corpse) slowly the librarian corrupts the chapters cult to that of Nurgle eventually rising through the ranks being made chapter master of the Ghost Knights. They start a crusade turning most of their recruiting worlds to worship of death being declared heretics by the imperium. Most of the chapter is killed during the fighting as the entire chapter turns to Nurgle as they see their cause to save the Imperium just, Nurgle steps in bringing all the dead back to life or unlife who overwhelm the Imperial forces. The Ghost Knights and their undead minions flee into the Halo Zone establishing a brutal reputation leading to the region being feared as haunted by Ghosts and the undead, only the inquisition and a few space marine chapters know the truth behind the horror story and stand ever vigilant to stop the Ghost Knights who have fully given in to Nurgle becoming deathless warriors and their unholy crusade for an Imperium of undeath
Just a draft but can easily seeing this working

My own Deathguard loyalist army, the remnants of the Dusk Raiders 7th company, rightfully worship the Corpse-Emperor because they have acknowledged that His decaying state is a sign He is transcending to a new state of being in the warp, the Star Child, whom the ignorant identify as a chaos god, while in truth the one named Nurgle is but the aspect of the still rebirthing Emperor, whose true appearance will be revealed to his truthful followers.

The decay He brings to His enlightned chosen is but a sign of His favour and the true loyalist will destroy the False Imperium to murder the beloved Corpse-Emperor and allow Him to be reborn in the warp and bring humanity to its true destiny, psychic evolution and union with the Immaterium. Then the folly of the Imperium will be revealed for the lie Malcador the Liar made of it and the Corpse-Emperor's benevolent plague will weed out the true faithful from those wanting.

Aye, this is why we worship the Corpse-Emperor, because the truth has been revealed to the 7th's librarians despite Malcador the Foul's attempt to deceive the Corpse-Emperor by having the Librariums banned at the Folly Nikea.

Death to the beloved Corpse-Emperor! Let Him be free from His fetid flesh and forever reign in the Immaterium!

Wow those are some cool models especially the havocs and obliterators. That is a cool idea I never thought some chaos marines would actually still worship the Emperor You just gave me a good idea the Ghost Knights will try to save the imperium from itself by turning everyone into the undead so it can be united under one purpose to bring death to everything, destroying the tyranny of life as it is only in death we are truly free.

One of the other things in Nurgle's portfolio is that he's the god of despair. When people are trapped in a situation where they see utterly no hope of getting out of it, Nurgle starts to whisper to them that, if they give up their last remnants of hope, if they abandon themselves to him, then he can deliver them. He's not all pus and death, that's just the way his gifts tend to manifest, being key to his realm.

Ummm...somewhere...

Well Nurgle is all about preservation right? So your Ghost Knights (When they were loyalist) were obsessed with helping others, contrary to the most imperial doctrines. So one night they are forced to watch a planet go under exterminatas, on that they have been fighting on for months, and have lost many soldiers while doing so. After that night the Chapter Master vows never to let anyone die under his command again. That same night Nurgle approaches him in a dream, and as others have mentioned already, bit by bit they are currupted. There you go! Instant dedication to nurgle!

Eh, that's more of the Purge. They're the ones that actively seek and destroy all life in their path. Most other Nurgly warbands would rather assimilate you into the Plaguefather's filth first. Kind of like the Tau, but smell way worse.

Personally, I find the biggest reason for joining Nurgle isn't necessarily that you become immortal, it's more because it makes you feel like you have a place. The Corpse Emperor sits on his throne, uncaring and ignorant of your existance. You fight blindly for a god that's dying more and more with each passing day, and no one cares about you. You have no friends, you're enslaved to a strict totalitarian government that would rather put a bullet through your head than listen to you complain, and everyone around you gets thrown into the meat grinder day after day. You get shot in the arm and the doc has to cut it off. Great, now you're crippled and useless. Then, it gets infected and hurts like a bitch. Great. Suddenly, you start to have this little buzz in the back of your head. Not angry, not vengeful, not sneaky, it's just a faint whisper in your mind. You ignore it for a while, and the infection is spreading. It's starting to hurt now, really bad. You start listening to the whispers to take your mind off the pain.
The voice is friendly, happy and content, and asks you if you want the pain to stop. Being a devout worshipper of the Emperor, you deny it. But after a long time of pain and extreme depression, you finally give into the voice. The Plaguefather rewards you by taking away the pain and invites you to fully join his family. Family? You've never had a family before. You're just an Imperial pawn. So you accept. Then, one day, a black space hulk appears in the sky. Plague carrying flies pour out, heralding the arrival of an army of Plague Marines. You're scared, but they don't attack you. They just offer you to follow them back to the ship, where you live out the rest of your days in the company of a hundred other Guardsmen like you, all filled to burst with plague boils. Now, you have a family that cares about you.
And that's the important part.

Join the greater Plague!

But another idea that goes contrary to the idea of still worshipping the God Emperor. What if a warp spawned Plague was ravenging your chapter and the Inquistion declared them all to be too far tainted to be redeemed. And so they pleaded to be saved from the forces of the Imperium and Nurgle answered their call.

For my own Nurgle marines I refused the picture of swelling carcasses and bilious rot. Instead I focused on the element of physical endurance. They were on the brink of giving in to the overwhelming hostile environment they were exposed to. On worlds under the harsh radiation of stars gone nova, where the broken-down civilisations turned to pollute their biospheres with all kinds of waste products, where microbic life started to mutate to extreme and even sealed armour bore no protection against the environment, they were driven towards failure and extinction.
Papa Nurgle promised them a way to endure. Little did they see the connection between their new patron and the forces that had driven them into withering, until it was too late. Now they are haggard shadows of their former gloriousness, zombie-like, staggering husks that look like death itself. But their caring foster-father has kept their promise. Radiation, plagues and chemical contamination may wear them down, but somehow their twisted and deformed bodies still obey their will and continue to function.
Consequently I am trying to give my chaos troops the appearance of living dead. The odd mutation now and then is allright, but I want to give the impression of bodies paying toll to constant weardown due to sickness, not of rotting while still alive.

Sounds cool Hruotland I am trying to make it so my chapter is not the typical swollen plague infested warrior as well instead I am trying to make them more wraith like so they are like spirits or revenants who have been brought back from the dead by Nurgle to prey on the living.

Nurgle is the reaction to the inevitability of death, which is the drive to live the best life possible. Think #YOLO. Death hangs over the worshippers of Nurgle, driving them to leave their lives to the fullest. After all, they could die at any moment.

I dislike disagreeing with you LL, but I must object. The worshipers of Nurgle is only driven on by a zest for life, bu unfortunately it often only materializes through terrible illness like cancer. Just look at a cancer-victim f.ex. they are the potential victims of Nugle. Few joins his ranks at will, most from affliction.

What about a Chapter with a mutated Betcher's Gland that allows them to absorb mutagens, diseases, and toxins from deceased enemies and then synthesize them and be able to spit them back out again?

The Inquisition could catch wind of this and the Chapter would then be on the run, looking for anyone that could afford them safe protection and enter stage left Papa Nurgle.

Alternatively that same mutation could start a worshipful type cult of their mutation and all of its benefits. As they try to learn more and more about different toxins and poisons, they begin to reasearch heretical information about diseases, leading them again to the worship of Papa Nurgle.

Just some ideas.

Hey just wondering would it be believable if the entire chapter was killed by an imperial army but were brought back from the dead by Nurgle becoming undead marines which would help explain why they want to make everyone in the Imperium undead. Mostly for getting revenge on he living for betraying them as well as seeing their rebirth into undeath as the only salvation for the Imperium from being destroyed by Xenos or itself with the corruption of weak minded fools which is slowly killing it.
