The TL heavy bolter or assault cannon on a land raider is on a turret with a (far) less than 360 arc. Due to where it's mounted.

As the others have said; it comes down to what arc the weapon has on the model. If you've glued your turret or sponson in place so you can't physically rotate it, you get to pretend it can swivel as if you hadn't done that.

The Night Scythe's fluff mentions a turret, but the guns on the model clearly are not mounted on any kind of rotating mechanism. So all they get is the 45 degree arc of being hull-mounted.

I would like to apologize for derailing this thread.

Back to the OP.

No, I do not think you can claim a turret mounted weapon on the NS.

Although, considering what was just discussed, if you created a turret for Destructor on the NS, you probably could claim it then.

That's modeling for advantage though. You can't give a weapon a 360° firing arch because you modeled it that way.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

meh...it was just a thought considering its fluff.

Yeah, it'd be asking for trouble. Especially since Night Scythes are already made of gold-plated awesome, so they really don't need any help.

Based off of multiple threads dealing with weapon mountings I would hope they eventually start stating what every weapon is mounted on.

ADD causes my posts to ramble from time to time. Please bear with me.

Aye, like the good old Rogue Trader days with the small diagram showing each vehicles fire arc.

one of the things I actually liked about Dystopian wars is that every weapon on every vehicle had a specific placing and listed exactly how far their turrets rotated.

40K seems to be either stapled to the hull or on a 360° turret

Understandable, but it was more for those that may have misconstrued his statement rather than those that understand what he was trying to say.

Which is funny considering how limited they really are. You can just take a ton of them and they're cheap.

I'll relate a little story, as it actually shows all sides of this argument:

I'm occasionally playing against a good friend that plays necron (Who is just a bit powergamey, but won't admit it) that for quite a while kept pointing at the fluff in the necron rulebook to insist his teslas were 360 degrees...

Amusingly, it is when he got a taste of his own medicine that it opened his eyes about this being a bit powerful. His most frequent foe started Chaos Marine, and said the 'neck mounted' guns on the heldrake could fire 360 degrees. Suddenly the necron player had to face a S8 firing flyer that would vector strike his vehicles THEN fire at their rear arc.

Suddenly the players went to forums, did some research, saw most of the community agreeing those guns are fixed forward despite the fluff (which was written back when this was a skimmer anyway). One just has to look closely at the model to realize it: There's big grooves in which the guns are set, no way to turn them. And more generally speaking, virtually all flyers have strictly front-mounted gun. It's one small weakness they almost all share (save for the occasional defensive big shoota or heavy stubber in a rear turret). It's an important balancing weakness given the amount of mobile firepower flyers bring.

So yeah, argument wise, start by looking at the model, those big grooves and the structure that holds the guns are very solid, that means front firing. And as Mannahnin
says, necrons shouldn't complain about that vehicle: For 100 points you get a superbly fast AV11 transport with four twin-linked S7 shots.
As a comparison orks get for 110-130 points a flyer that shoots S6 guns at less ballistic skill, with only AV10, no transport capability, and can't be spammed as easy since it's fast attack.

ive always played the night scythe as having a 45 degree fire arc, but from each "gun" giving it a slightly larger fire arc. however that said, we are also pretty leniant in its fire arc. as long as your generally pointing at the target, and not sideways or backwards we allow the shots. this is mainly due to the restrictions on flier movment, and the fact the NS cant hover.

just how i and my group play it. YMMV and i dont know if this is RAW or not, but it seems like common sense to me. the gun is slotted in, and looks like if it could turn, it would have to rotate the portal as well. and there is no swivel mounting or anything simaler. (in fact they are "wired" in with pretty heavy cables, from multiple sides, indicating its a static mount.)

just my 2 bits.
