I also think that the 3 will most likely end up as PVC, and probably less due to cost but more down to the more organic nature of the shapes making cutting them for polystyrene really tricky,

I'm guessing the Gorm, Lion God and Sun Stalker only sold in low numbers on the survey due to either being outright weird or containing details that people aren't comfortable with, otherwise it's a strange coincidence that it's these 3 in particular and not others. He's probably still looking at something that can be mass produced but is more cost effective the original plan was for PVC for these and that might be where they end up. I'm still hpoing the Gorm comes with both feet/hand options and I wouldn't mind if it got tweaked a bit in production I only got it as it was effectively free with the armour and pin up. 3 minis in PVC and the rest hard plastic that's something I never thought he'd achieve at the start.

Good call there Dave - it really might be down to these 3 not having the numbers to justify 'hard plastic' due to the even more disturbing than normal KD look they share!

I would hope he takes the view of the project in totality, rather than looking at individual items, but ofc I don't know what his constraints are.

Adam was about celebrating SDE Forgotten King breaking the million as he backed that

but more to your point he mentioned a new update on the 14th April

@Evan Zynda, Waiting on 2 more models to arrive before I make the April Update.

so I guess it may not be too long to go now (postal gods permitting).

Adam was active on the comments answering questions for a bunch of time last night,

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/poots/kingdom-death-monster/comments

but here's a few highlights (there's a fair bit more than I've copied over)

on the state of the game/models

"The Main Game is currently in editing and pre-production. Not all the models have met my final approval yet. I have a PVC Phoenix and a Hard plastic phoenix. There is a reason I did not showcase the pvc version! Every monster will be done up, to the utmost best of my ability in hard plastic. Except the Lion God. If there is room for him in the production que, I of course want to do it! We'll see, its gonna be a close call.

Most common complaint is that the game is too difficult. To address this concern we added a game variant called hero mode, where you begin with a stat upgrade and survivors only get "knocked out". The difficulty exists because I wanted it to challenge players and to have to bring my best while playing. Your take away as a backer should be that the average playtester, is a coward that always wants to win despite actually trying."

on loot

"We have one play tester that never shares with his group! lol. In turn the other players would never trade with him, but the lucky son of a gun always managed to get the resources he wanted anyway. We have found in most cases people do share, or take things to a vote. Its been shockingly diplomatic.

On of the last changes we made in the rules was to define that a singular survivor can gain something, and the "group" can gain something. The spoils from a monster are gained by the group, while finding a useful item on the hunt is gained by the survivor. I know this seems like a totally "no duh" moment. But up until that point we only used a generic "gain" which left room for ambiguity as opposed to letting players know when it was time to talk to each other and divide stuff up."

on replayability

"@Matt, There is a huge range of permutations and no two settlements so far, have been alike. Towards the end of the campaign, people will have access to the majority of the content, but the journey there has been very different. We have a story event that deals with when you lose and you might find some surprises there for starting a new campaign."

On prices

[will prices go up in the re-opened pledge manager]
"@Amber, some things will go up yes. The dragon king expansion for sure. Originally it was priced out as a PVC model, but now that we re-sculpted it from scratch and moved it to hard plastic the raw price per unit has jumped tremendously. We have to be fiscally responsible in some cases so that we keep the shipping budget intact.

[what's the final retail cost]
"Its uh.... looking like it's gonna be a $200 game ;_;. I am not really happy about it. But I have yet to figure out any other way to cover the cost of its production! About 15 plastic spures, a 200 page rulebook, two game board, 700 ish cards and another 250ish gear cards. It's uh... a monster all right! lol"

Yeah, 200 bucks is a scary pricetag, but you definitely get a ton of bang for your buck. I don't see it as that outlandish.

As far as it being "too hard"... I think I might love it even more for that.

Then again, Im the same guy who enjoys playing FTL and Dwarf fortress for hours on end, even though I've only beaten the former 3 times out of 150 games

Amen to that. I always explained it as, "Dark Souls the Board Game" and managed to get some of the point across well. That makes me really look forward to playing.

I actually got a bunch of my buddies interested in playing it with the line "Think Dark Souls in board game form, but more disturbing", it does indeed get the point along well. I'm so freaking excited that we could see this shipping out in the next few months here, I don't really care when I get it, I'm just really looking forward to it. The thought of it also terrifies me, however. That is going to be one huge pile of gorgeous models I have to ruin with my inferior painting skills. I still haven't figured out if I'm going to attempt to tackle magnetizing the armor kits or not, it sounds like a terrifying process to someone who has never done it before.

Dark Souls. Prepare to Paint.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that used that description. As for the painting and magnetizing... start practicing! The only way to get better is to try new stuff. I know I'm going to have to work a LOT on my flesh tones... so I'm gonna be practicing and trying out new tricks.

But I'm right there with you. I have a resin cast of the female Big Game Hunter... and she is just sitting there, assembled, unprimed, waiting for paint. And I am terrified of messing it up.

So, what's the over/under on you guys getting this in 2014? Just curious on people's thoughts

I'm going to bet January 2015, personally... but I haven't been tracking this too closely. It's all in a single, giant wave, right? When he talks about things still possibly going the PVC or hard plastic route, that means those items haven't really been started on for tooling, seemingly.

Late 2014 would be my bet, but that would be US and Canada only, ROW won't probably have goods in hands until sometime in 2015, I've got a feeling the ROW shipping may cause a fair few problems.

The $200 price tag doesn't surprise me in the least- there is so much stuff he added in there. Ironically, it might help sell it as more of a high-end boutique item fitting right in with the rest of Poots' stuff.

Doubtful. I might even be tempted to say no- we've already pledged and paid, but if you do add another Dragon King expansion when it opens back up you will pay the higher price*.

Call me crazy, but I think U.S. backers will have it in August. You may well make fun of me if we don't, but that's my optimistic guess!

I think it is clear that what you've already paid for stays set, but if you want to ad din anything else when the Pledge Manager reopens, it will be at the 'new' pricing levels.

Also, I'm fairly certain that we'll get this shipped to us this year, but I'm not banking on Q2 anymore!

As Adam isn't afraid of spending money but discarding unsatisfactory results (eg all the sculpts that have been done but not released)

He may well have a PVC tool of the Lion God which is (just about) good enough which will be used if the design & production of a hard plastic version won't fit the time frame he needs

(he mentions he has a PVC phoenix so he paid to tool that even though it didn't work out well enough to use)

I think stuff will be leaving China (rather than arriving in the USA) at the end of Q2,

but I think the actual shipping will be a lot slower than folk hope as Adam will use a small (but high quality) team and there is a huge amount to shift so at least a couple of months to get it done

(oh but the joy when it arrives )

Even so I'm expecting all backers to get their stuff this year.

The KD box is easily the one I'm most anticipating but also the one I most dread. My painting skills are not enough. They will never be enough!

That does make it sound amazing! Hope they don't tone it down too much, actually think having something that is very difficult would suit the character of this game perfectly.

From personal experience, the average hipster congregates at coffee shops, art college campuses, and rather awful bars.

Thankfully (or not), being in Baltimore we have an excessive amount of all of the above.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I wasn't "into" KS when this was about(my first was, regrettably, Raging Heroes), and I've not been following along, so you hopefully won't mind if I ask a couple of questions that seem painfully daft to all of you; what's the deal with KD's online store? Are there going to be new versions of all the "sold out" miniatures(typically, all the ones I actually like are among those), or are they just gone forever? Will the plastic models being talked about be available individually after the game's launch, or only as part of the main boxed set?

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

He sometimes does more runs of popular items- I believe he has a general release section of models that will always have more runs eventually. Don't know specific details about the kickstarter stuff, but I assume if it's in a set it will stay in a set.
