Being a tight ass with money, I like finding other alternatives to Citadel brand things, as Ive learned over the years you can get the same or better, for far less. SO Ive got an ide aon a custom Warboss and I need green stuff to achieve it. But I dont want to give GW an obscene amount of money for what little they give. Ideas? I know there is other brands out there, but Ive no clue what the hell they are
Ideas/suggestions?

Erm, you do know that you can buy the green stuff what GW marks up ridiculously for cheap ya know?
Just search for "Kneadatite"
For example, this one. a 36" strip for £11.

Another thing i would suggest is buying green stuff with the blue and yellow parts seperated. The middle part in those stripes is always unuseable as it is already hardened.
Milliput is another alternative and probably even cheaper. But it behaves and sculpts differently. It's more like clay and not as sticky. But fully hardened it isn't as rubbery as green stuff and can be filed and sanded for sharp edges.
When i scratchbuild larger areas i often build the basic bulk with Milliput and only add the details with greenstuff.
And if you feel really experimental you can also mix greenstuff and milliput together into one. :-)

Check out the Apoxie line of products from Aves studios ( www.avesstudios.com). A similar product to milliput but more dynamic of a range. It behaves more like sculpting clay and can be mixed with Greenstuff to alter the properties. I've used it for years and its an excellent product, but not meant to be a replacement to GS.

Definitely - if you can buy it from GW...and it isn't a miniature, you can get better, cheaper from someone else (sometimes even when it is a miniature).

That is the Green stuff which is sold by most companies as Greenstuff - from the company who makes it. I normally get the stuff which comes in two bars as opposed to the ribbons. It allows you to skip the crud in the middle of the ribbon which happens where the two colors touch in the package.
Another one which is nice and comparable to Green stuff/Kneadatite is Procreate:
http://www.kraftmark.biz/kraft.procreate.html
It isn't green - but it has properties which are closer to GS than to other putties like Milliput:
http://www.milliput.com/prod.htm
Or Brown stuff:
http://www.polymericsystems.com/epoxies-adhesives/epoxy-putty-tapes/kneadatite-brown-neutral.htm
If you are thinking you might be using more than just a little of it, you might consider getting some of each of the more common sculpting putties. Each of them is a little (or a lot) different in terms of their final properties and how they work.

I can say that I have used apoxisculpt and its very good stuff, and exceptionally economical (got a huge tub about $30 two years ago, and only about a third the way through it).
I hear a lot of good things about milliput, but have not personally tried it.
Best of luck!

I've got green stuff and brown stuff, both from Heresy Miniatures, and if you do get the big tubes, it can be worth chopping up the parts into smaller pieces and then freezing what you won't use immediately. After about a year or so, green-stuff starts to become more and more difficult to work with. Freezing it stops that from happening and means you won't waste any. (I work pretty slow and take a lot of breaks, so I've had this happen to me a couple of times!)
Brown-stuff is more or less the same in that respect. It also has the ability to be sanded and it holds sharp edges far better than green-stuff. I use it for non-organic modelling, such as my Greater Daemon's collar, it's also good for doing armour or for finishing up weapons.

i don't know if it will actually stop completely from cureing but it will definitely slow it down. Cold temperature slows down the chemical process while heat will speed it up.
And for everyone that is interested in a more in-depth comparison (and not only a price comparison) on some of the modeling putties this article is an interesting read: http://www.the-waaagh.com/forums/?showtopic=30279

You have heard correctly. The chemical process which btldoomhammer is actually heat generation. You can also cure GS without mixing it by throwing it in an oven. The A+B chemicals create heat which cure the putty. Same basic process which occurs with most casting resins - though when GS cures, there is much less heat generated. Curing resin can actually get very hot.
