I hoping someone on here can help me color match GW Shadow Grey. It's the main color for my Space Wolves army, but I'm beginning to run low. I've did a color card with the Oxford Blue that the compatibility chart on here suggests. However, it's too purple. I'm wondering if any of the colors on the chart are a closer match.
Thanks

Thanks but I have used this chart, and the Oxford Blue that it suggests is too purple. I was hoping somebody had used any of the other colors would know.

The problem is that you are using Vallejo Model Color Oxford Blue. The Model Color range is not meant to be a replacement for Citadel paints, some just happen to be close matches. Your best results will come from using Vallejo Game Color Sombre Grey... I can tell you from experience that is as close to an exact match as you can probably get.
Game Color is meant to be a match/near match to the "old" Citadel range and in every case I've experienced, they are so close in color that you can't tell. Also try the Reaper Master Series they have listed on that chart. I find those to be fantastic paints as well.

Thanks a lot. I was hoping to find someone like you that had experience dealing with the other paint lines

isnt it called "the fang" now or something?
i would stick with GW if possible.
i have the citadel and vallejo versions of some paints and really, it's not even close.
edit: funny that i have the exact opposite experience of scotty. the biggest one that sticks out in my mind was heavy red vs mechrtie red. not even close. game colour doesnt spray the same, doesnt stick the same, doesnt dry brush the same, it seperates out into all different wierd stuff on the wet pallett. IMO game colour did a pretty bad job of copying GWs paint. im not say it's all bad paint, i like some of the colours, but it is far from the same as citadel.

Ahh shadow grey such a nice color. That's one of the reasons I have switched slowly to vallejo. They never change their color ranges by total obliteration of one color. They just add more over time. This and dropper bottles

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

according to the War paint App i have on my phone....
Old Citadel - Shadow Grey
New Citadel - Eshin Grey
Vallejo Game - Sombre Grey
I'd switch to vallejo myself. I found a store on ebay that worked out at something like 25% more paint for 40% less money. plus the dropper bottles means you dont waste as much paint as you do scooping out a puddle form a GW bottle.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm trying to finish armies that have discontinued GW paints, and putting off starting new ones until I find a solid new paintline.
I started to slowly switch over to vallajo for similar reasons as mentioned above but some paints turn out way to watery. I shake and shake and mix the paint but there's something wrong. Ive had this happen a few times now. Its almost like having to relearn how to paint, if this consistency is suppose to be right. Also some colors are way off. Vallajo red's are almost pink.
On the flip side, the vallejo paints seem to have a better brightness or pop. The colors on the models Ive painted seems richer.
Ive gone back and bought a few paints from the GW new paintline, but am not impressed yet. The colors just seem bland, and don't stick out on the models. Also, the GW paint lids no longer lock in an up position, which is really annoying.
I don't know what I'm gonna do when I finally run out of goblin green for my orks.

A kindred spirit. These are the same reasons I switched. More colors, consistent color pallet, ease of mixing colors, and works with most other acrylics. Some of my vallejo paints do have the "watery" consistency you're talking about, but once you mix the paint in the pallet it comes together a bit more. It still covers well, and has an even color. You just won't have to thin it. Automatically Appended Next Post: I posted this the other week, and didn't get much traffic. Now suddenly, everybody jumps in. Weird. Anyway, thanks to everyone's in put. I've heard mixed reviews about GW's new line. I paint my Space Wolves in Shadow Grey and that's about it ( I refuse to paint them in baby blue armor). I don't really do any highlights or dry brushing because I think it's a great color on it's own.

Remember that Coat D' Arms picked up the rights to the original GW paint range. Their colour code 150 is Shadow Grey and is supposed to match the last iteration of GW Shadow Grey.
